Senate rejects GOP oil drilling plan (GOP measure, defeated Tuesday by a vote of 56-42)

WASHINGTON - The Senate has rejected a Republican energy plan that calls for opening an Alaska wildlife refuge and some offshore waters to oil development. Supporters of the measure couldn't get the needed 60 votes to overcome a Democratic-led filibuster threat.

Republican leader Mitch McConnell of Kentucky said more domestic oil production is needed to keep prices in check and to reduce U.S. dependence on oil imports.

Opponents said areas such as the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge and coastal waters that have been off limits to drilling for 25 years ought to remain that out of bounds to oil companies. The GOP measure, defeated Tuesday by a vote of 56-42, would have allowed coastal states to get a waiver to the offshore drilling ban.

Thats ‘filibustered’ since it is the replacement rules for a REAL filibuster. Nobody has to stand up and go to the effort and more importantly DRAW THE PUBLIC ATTENTION TO THE ACT OF FILBUSTERING.

In this case the ‘Rats don’t want public attention on this effort by the Republicans to FIX a problem.

Agree 100 percent. The Rats took the filibuster to a new level after the rule changed. The old rule was necessary, IMO but when changed it’s been taken advantage of.

Probably because the GOP wants to be nice and civil. I say, to he!! with that. We’ve been nice and civil for years, and the Demoncats just laughed in our faces, if not spat in them.

>The Dem’s political plan is to defeat every Republican energy plan.

I suspect that one of the reasons is to please their environmentalist wacko contitutes, the other is to just pettily partisanly spite us Republicans. Do you agree?

The technology exists to easily extract all the oil we could need for a couple hundred years into fields that offer what used to be major obstructions to the extraction process: OIL LEFT IN THE GROUND. But we lack the WILL to retrieve it because a bunch of bunny hugging commie funded idiots have gained control of both the media and the major parties. We're toast. Accept it and go back to church, 'cause it's almost DONE.
