College Official Fired for Column on Homosexuality By Pete Winn CNSNews.com Senior Staff Writer May 12, 2008
(CNSNews.com) - Cybercast News Service has learned that a University of Toledo administrator has lost her job because she wrote a newspaper commentary that questioned whether homosexuality is a civil rights issue.
Crystal Dixon, the associate vice president of human resources at the state university, had earlier been put on paid administrative leave for the Apr. 18 column published in the Toledo Free Press, as detailed in a previous CNSNews.com story.
"She has been fired," said Brian Rooney, spokesman for the Thomas More Law Center, an Ann Arbor, Mich.-based legal-defense group which is representing Dixon.
Rooney told Cybercast News Service that the university had offered Dixon "another position, in a different part of the university, not in human resources" because she had argued in her editorial that sexual orientation is not an immutable characteristic like race or sex and should not be afforded the same protection under civil rights laws.
"She said no, that's when she was fired," Rooney said. "We are going to do everything we can within the law to try to show that the firing was improper and potentially illegal."

Some peoples free speech is more free than others.
And this is outrageous because the laws are mixed regarding whether homosexuality is a civil rights issue. I hear the gay activists say that we need federal civil rights legislation in this area because the laws are muddled and unclear.
So, if the laws as of now aren’t clear cut, she has every right to say it’s questionable regarding civil rights protections for homosexuality. I know that is a politically INCORRECT point of view.
Or, then I wonder, why are the gay activists pushing so hard for civil rights legislation if it’s already a settled matter in the law???????
It sure sounds like she was fired for violating political correctness.
Given that they were going to censor her, this is the best of all possible next steps.
If she sues, the college is going to pay and pay, as they should. Anything short of 8 figures is way too small.
If she doesn’t sue, she deserves what she got.
Wow, compare that with Ward Churchill. Some oxes(sic) are clearly superior.
Homosexuals need to keep in mind, however, that the good news of the gospel is not about how God despises same-sex sexual relationships. In fact, 1 Corinthians 6:9-11 indicates that certain members of that church had been slaves to such relationships but had been cleansed in Jesus' name. So these former homosexuals had evidently repented and accepted God's grace to straighten their lives out.
John 3:16
Revelation 3:20
Free speech for me but not for thee.
She has the right to say it whether the laws are clear cut or not. The constitution doesn't say we can't speak out against laws, or question their legality!
Her point was too close for comfort.
” I cannot wake up tomorrow and not be black”. That is heresy to the homos who argue that they are “born that way”.
The key here is one day did Crystal Dixon say “I think, I want to be black”. Yet the homo has to decide whether he is going to engage in a particular behavior. There is a moment of “truth” where one chooses to proceed, or not.
Ah, yes, Toledo, where the kooky leftist nut who is mayor wouldn’t let the Marines maneuver. He will probably take the university president to the bozarts ball. Lust in the rust belt, perhaps?

The Toledo Free Press is not an entity of the University, right? And this woman was not officially representing the University in her commentary, correct? So a private citizen is not allowed to have an unpopular opinion on a controversial subject??? Freedom of speech? Freedom of thought?
Is the University of Toledo a private school? If so, they should be able to fire anyone for whatever reason they want, right? If it’s a state school, that’s different.
