Clinton is on the ropes
The Hill ^ | 05/07/08 | Klaus Marre and Sam Youngman

Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton’s (D-N.Y.) presidential aspirations took a severe blow Tuesday night when frontrunner Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.) soundly defeated her in North Carolina and the former first lady was unable to counterpunch in Indiana. While Clinton has lost by greater margins and once suffered through a long losing streak, Tuesday’s results were devastating because it took the wind out of the sails of a campaign that had tried to convince voters and superdelegates that the tide had turned in her favor.

(snip)

Time is now running out for Clinton, who is behind in pledged delegates, total delegates, states won and total votes. It will be increasingly tough for her to convince superdelegates to remain uncommitted as momentum has clearly swung back to Obama.

As per DNC rules, the Democrats don't have winner-take-all states. That cuts both ways, though, because no winner-take-all states means Hillary has no real chance of making up her current approx. 150 delegate deficit, even if the 113 delegates from Michigan and Florida are allowed to vote.

The big news today is that Obama picked up a net 200,000 "popular" votes, which puts him more than 100,000 votes ahead of Hillary in that category even counting Michigan and Florida. That was Hillary's last chance to give the super delegates an excuse to vote for her.

Barring some collapse by Obama before Kentucky and Oregon vote in two weeks, Hillary's done. By "collapse", I mean something bigger than another Wright or Ayers sort of revelation.

Hillary will probably hang in there through May 20th to give herself time to explore her options, but it's hard to see how she'll be able to come to any other conclusion than that her campaign is futile and that she has to concede the nomination by June 4th at the latest if she wants any chance at a future shot at the White House.

The one on the far end looks as if he might actually be getting better. ;)

Aaah, yes the Flying Monkeys will bring one by one the Super Delegates to Hillary and she will “convince” them of their vote.

> That is really strange. I don't see your pics on the thread but I do see them on the post composition page.

Might need to refresh your browser window. Mine had the same effect (no-show) on first view; a page reload brought the images in. Go figure...

CUSTOMER: Well, can you hang around a couple of minutes? He won't be long.
CART MASTER: No, I've got to go to the Robinsons'. They've lost nine today.
CUSTOMER: Well, when's your next round?
CART MASTER: Thursday.
DEAD PERSON: I think I'll go for a walk.
CUSTOMER: You're not fooling anyone, you know. Look. Isn't there something you can do?
DEAD PERSON: [singing] I feel happy. I feel happy.
[whop]
CUSTOMER: Ah, thanks very much.
CART MASTER: Not at all. See you on Thursday.

I'll be darned. There they are now. I am using Firefox now since about Jan. and I have noticed missing pics in a number of places but no red x's and no frames if I highlight the area. Refreshing doesn't usually change it either. I don't know, I can't find any options to unblock.

But alas I guess I'll have to put the Munchkins on hold. The Hildebeast yet lives.

Never count the Clintons out. The time is ripe for another “Wright” type story to be released.

Or Obama suddenly has transportation problems. If the Clintons could schedule his appearances, Obama would be sharing the floor with Ron Brown and Paul Wellstone. Meanwhile, the Clintons reincarnate like flies.

Unlike IE, Firefox doesn't put up the little "red-X" icon for a missing image -- Firefox just omits the image silently/invisibly. I think you only get a frame when highlighting -if- the IMG tag includes a WIDTH/HEIGHT specification, which I don't bother with most of the time. I don't think it's a blocking thing, but there might be a cache problem. I don't recall having this issue until about a month ago, and I've use Firefox (and Mozilla before that) since it was Netscape in 1996.

Are you sure? If it's got an image of a woman in it, you can sell it on eBay for $25,000...

Thank you for your help with that. I was going to say that I didn’t notice this happening until recently although I started using Firefox about four months ago. Perhaps it’s an issue with the changes to FR. ?

You're welcome.

Actually, that's a good point you raise -- I haven't seen the effect on any other sites.

But then, I spend a majority of my web time on FR!

I wonder what browsers Johjn Robinson uses to check compatibility when he makes changes? Not everybody uses IE...

Same here. FR is almost "the web" to me.

Not everybody uses IE...

I won't go back to it. I get some lockups with Firefox but not nearly the trouble IE was. One of these days I will put Linux underneath it all and that will probably cure the rest.

Or at least change the symptoms. ;-)

I use a mix of Windows, Linux, Unix, and Mac systems both at home and at work. Overall I'm presently happiest with the Macs as the hardware, since I run VMware Fusion which allows me to also run Windows and Linux under MacOSX -- all on one computer, concurrently -- the best of all worlds.

I loath IE. Firefox runs on all my platforms.
