Huckabee frees delegates, supports McCain (Breaking Now)

Former Arkansas Gov. and GOP presidential contender Mike Huckabee has released the

Huckabee encouraged the six delegates he won to vote for Republican presumptive presidential nominee John McCain, said Gary Jones, the chairman of the Oklahoma Republican Party.

Jones said Monday he has contacted Huckabee's delegates and "all but one” of them said they would vote for McCain.

The other delegate is going to vote for U.S. Rep. Ron Paul, R-Texas, who is continuing his presidential bid despite dropping out of recent primaries.

If that holds true, 40 of Oklahoma's 41 GOP votes to be cast during the Republican National Convention in September will be for McCain, a U.S. senator from Arizona, Jones said. Paul, who did not win a delegate during Oklahoma's Feb. 5 presidential primary, would get one vote.

McCain earned 23 delegates for winning Oklahoma's primary, and nine other delegates for winning three congressional districts.

Huckabee finished second in the primary, but earned six delegates for winning two congressional districts.

Oklahoma has three additional delegates — Jones and two national committee members — who are committed to McCain.

I didn't ask how many were Ron Paul delegates. I asked how many are Ron Paul People I've been hearing reports about them getting delegate spots due to lack of interest by the rest of the Republicans.

Not yet, just watched it on x-play. I may buy it just because anything I buy eventually goes to my adopted soldier in Iraq. Instead, I bought TTWO stock (not a bright move unless EA buys them).

Juan’s sucking up to La Raza has paid off already!

Yeah, I can't wait to see how the Paul race-baiters spin McCain speaking too "The Race". Good move there, John.

Here's one of the Ron Paul hijacking stories. I heard they also made a mess of the Texas convention.

Oh yea, they didn't care about any rules and just raised a major ruckus the whole time. Almost as bad as Nevada.

Why is this a bad thing? Have you ever been to a statewide Republican function? I don't know how it is by you, but in Jersey, they're infested with the biggest party-line, principle-free, overweight, dorks you'll ever see in your life. Plus, they have the absolute worst taste in neckties and invariably hire the worst cover bands you'll ever hear to play their functions. Anything that raises a ruckus with these jerks is great as far as I'm concerned.

The state parties are supposed to submit the list of candidates by the first Tuesday of February, and the board of elections is supposed to nominate everyone on that list in March. The list is supposed to include every candidate generally recognized in the news media, which, on the deadline, included Mitt Romney. The statute has a provision for keeping the party from including your name by delivering an affidavit to the state party chair. Since I doubt Romney delivered such an affidavit before the deadline, since the deadline was Super Tuesday, there must be a way to get off the ballot after that, at least before the nomination meeting. Of course, Huckabee withdrew the same day as that nomination meeting, though I think it was late in that day, after the primary meeting.

One thing that's interesting... if Ron Paul or Alan Keyes were considering running as third party candidates, they probably shouldn't have left their names on the ballot. Because they've appeared on the Republican primary ballot, they cannot appear on the general election ballot for President as anyone other than the Republican nominee. If either still wants to run in November, it will have to be as a write-on candidate, even if the Libertarian, Constitution, or some other party were to nominate them (I think both already have nominees anyway).

Another thing that's interesting; Ron Paul is still actively campaigning here. I guess he figured he might as well, since he's already won re-election to Congress. Once, I might have thought that he was building support for a third party run, but NC is probably not the only state he'd have to run as a write-on candidate in, so that's unlikely.

Outstanding! If I might make a suggestion, if you send this off to him/her, spring for an extra 15 bucks and buy them the official guidebook put out by Rockstar. I'd imagine their playing time is a bit limited, and the book really helps the player cut right to the chase.

McCain/Huckabee would be about as smart as Obama/Wright. I expect by November many, many people are going to be pretty sick of preachers.

McCain is passable on social issues, weak on taxes, good on fiscal, poor on immigration, and good on defense.

Huck is great on social issues, weak on taxes, weak on fiscal, poor on immigration, and weak on defense.

All Huck does is reel in a few Bible-thumper types.

Romney would reel them in but also add more fiscal and immigration cred to the ticket - a stronger running mate.

Ideologically I’d say Fred Thompson, but I don’t think he’s gonna be the Veep so that’s just a pipe dream.
