North Carolina Primary - LIVE THREAD (with Primer)
May 6, 2008 | Live

Posted on 05/05/2008 11:21:08 PM PDT by MitchellC

The official discussion thread for North Carolina's big day - the first time in twenty years NC has mattered in a Presidential primary. Also, several other hotly contested primary races, determining who will face off in November to replace term limited Governor Mike Easley; and some very interesting Congressional races, among them the three-way 11th district race that includes Free Republic's own John Armor.

Races are held under run-off rules; if the top vote-getter doesn't reach 40%, the top two vote-getters will face off in June.

I’m just wondering if we’ll need a runoff primary for GOV of if one of them can get over 40%.

Seen more Fred Smith signs around than the others.

I’ve seen quite a few Fred Smith signs. Only a couple for McCrory, near the early voting site - and that’s here in the Charlotte area. Of course, many people here moved out of Charlotte precisely because of McCrory’s administration and their ghastly City Council, corrupt County Commissioners, and psychotic School Board.

Thank you. I'll say to you what I'll say ti everyone I talk to, today. Turn-out is going to be low. Mine is a tight race. Please go home and call at least five friends and neighbors and ask them if they have voted?

If not, tell them it's important. Ask them to promise they will get out and vote.

Perdue has pulled a Huckabee, doing away with negative advertising only to put out several ads talking about how great she is for doing away with negative advertising.

LOL! That's true.

She's also recruited Andy Griffith to appear in some folksy-downhome TV ads :-/

state senator (and conservative) Fred Smith and long-time Charlotte Mayor (and moderate) Pat McCrory

What makes Smith a conservative and McCrory a moderate?

Just based on the TV and radio ads, I like McCrory a lot more than Smith.

Term limits, Howard. I know, he's a Republican, but he's been up there for at least 25 years.

And he joined the cut-n-run crowd on Iraq a while ago, so while he'll keep his seat by default, I won't vote for him.

I am voting for HRC today. I never imagined that would happen! (I have been a registered Jessecrat for 32 years)

Drudge is headlining that HRC will lose by 15 points. The only reason I can think of for doing this is to discourage BHO voters from standing in line to vote.

My guess is that BHO wins by 7 points.

John, I did not see the 60 minutes show, but did see Scalia on C-SPAN and for the first time I saw someone take on Brian Lamb. Some of Lamb's questions tended to support Leslie's view and Scalia called him on it.

On C-SPAN Scalia made all the points you make in your article. I think Scalia went on CSPAN to correct the record and to get at least some exposure for what Leslie left on the cutting room floor.

When Brian asked why Scalia was going so public recently, Scalia first mentioned his new book, and then said that he felt the public could get a better understanding of his true views and positions if he went to the pubic directly rather than through the media filter.

What was interesting to me was Scalia included Brain Lamb as part of that "media" filter. Brian looked hurt, Scalia looked amused.

One thing most people don't know is that CSPAN is funded by the cable media. Time Warner is one of its biggest funders. I believe it was before the 2000 election that the funders of CSPAN told Lamb that he was going to have to be more biased for the Democrats. That is when CSPAN started separate lines for Democrats, Republicans, and Independents.

From the start there were Democrats on the Democrat line. fake Republicans (Democrats) on the Republican line and Leftists on the Independent line. At the same time the percent of time CSPAN devotes to coverage of leftist events compared to right wing events increased dramatically.

Soon after the change I wrote Brian a letter with documentation about how the 3 line system and recent coverage of events favored the left.

I expressed the view that it would likely cost CSPAN much of its audience, since the audiences for political broadcasts are almost all conservative. Lamb replied that it did not matter if CSPAN had an audience or not... he reported to the cable owners not the viewers. Brian made no attempt to dispute my observations.

Does Brian Lamb believe in fairly informing the public? I believe Brian believes in kissing the asses that feed him.
