THE office computer of suspended Power Authority Inspector General Daniel Wiese was "wiped totally clean" of e-mails and other records just days before being seized by investigators probing an alleged State Police dirty-tricks squad, The Post has learned.
The computer, believed to contain sensitive details of Wiese's communications with State Police officials, was grabbed last month at the Power Authority's headquarters in White Plains under a subpoena issued by the office of Attorney General Andrew Cuomo, a source close to the authority said.

Now they won't be able to find ANYTHING on the guy; what a let-down that must be ...
Democrats remain “above the law”.
“Given the way it was scrubbed, it does not appear that the attorney general’s investigators can recover the information that was there.”
Any 5th grader knows they back those things up. You might not get them all, but they are out there somewhere.
Spitzer did say he wanted to clean up NY
What an incredible coincidence. If this computer had been the responsibility of a Republican, there might very well have been some real trouble.
This couldn't happen on my network - I keep a rotation of snapshots of everyone's hard drives...but I wonder if that was happening in this case.
There must be copies on a backup server . . . unless the NY government IT department is too stupid to make backups.
Or too conniving and smart.
I wonder what the hell a “Power Authority Inspector General” is supposed to do.
I’ll bet New York is the only state with one.
The older I get, the more amazed I am that the world functions at all. We need massive, sweeping changes in the people that run the US gov't. The Founding Fathers have given us an incredible structure and system but too many of the people running it today are corrupt for the system to stand much longer. An enormous influx of simple integrity and honesty is the only thing that will save this country. IMO, that involves (though not requires) a return to faith, and sadly, I don't see that coming any time soon.

This is absolutely the only use for the FBI, and that’s to make sure people in the government aren’t screwing around with their positions of power. That being said, they should also be reduced drastically so they may deal with their new “clients” without being bored the whole day.
That, dear sir, was priceless.
Unless the platters were physically destroyed, the data can be recovered.
It might cost a lot, and take a while, but it can be recovered. Just call the Feds, they know how.
Worth every penny they might have to pay.
But no, It's about some corrupt sucker on the public tit.
You and me both, brother!
Cuomo chasing Spitzer is like some Bambino and Gotti family guys playing touch football. They should all be in jail; but since they are RATS it is not gonna happen.
Thats fine. But the million dollar question is. Was the email servers message stores backed up, including archiving of all ingoing and outgoing messages?
Usually there are two copies. One stored on-site and one off-site at a facility like Iron Mountain.
That is if IT dept was doing its job and had the proper budget.
