The police chief in Riverdale accidentally shot himself in an ankle while demonstrating how to dislodge a jammed handgun. He was demonstrating this procedure? Was everyone taking notes?
Next we'll hear all the patrol officers have ankle wounds.

Cops would be much safer if they did not have guns.

Of course, only professionals such as the military and police should be trusted with guns.

Probably demonstrating one handed clearance technique. I teach the same in my classes...but with the aforementioned snap caps.

This gentleman unintentionally just presented the most effective piece of instruction in his career. Seeing the abrupt effects of unsafe firearms handling is something that tends to stick with a person.

Certainly this Chief was familiar with, and even taught the tenet that you never point a firearm at anything you don’t intend to shoot. Therefore it seems reasonable to assume that the Chief intended to shoot himself in the ankle. He needs to be psychoanalyzed for his self-destructive gestures and possibly barred from owning firearms altogether.

The chief's brother, a state lawmaker, said Hansen is a 23-year veteran and chief of the Riverdale police force since 2006.Rep. Neil Hansen, D-Ogden, said he regularly goes target practicing with his brother and described him as safety-conscious.
"I've never seen him do anything reckless," Neil Hansen told the Standard-Examiner of Ogden.
It only requires you to get cocky or careless once for serious or even fatal results to occur.
Fortunately, injuries weren't life threatening, and he likely taught his men a lesson in gun safety they won't forget soon.
