I remember in the late 70s Israel wanted to start housing projects in the Gaza strip. No, it wasn't to be homes for early "settlers" but for the Gaza Arabs so that they would be able to move out of the refugee camps. However, Israel was condemned by the UN (via its Arab and East-bloc majorities) because they were building on "occupied territories". In reality of course the Arab states were worried that their hostages - the refugees - would no longer be hostages, and even start to understand who were their real enemies.

From the article you posted it appears that the Arab refugees did understand that in the late 40s:

“We know who our enemies are,” they will say, and they are referring to their Arab brothers who, they declare, persuaded them unnecessarily to leave their homes. . . . I even heard it said that many of the refugees would give a welcome to the Israelis if they were to come in and take the district over.

It was quite interesting to see - but you wouldn't see it unless you did not rely on our MSM - how many Arabs applied for Israeli papers after the Annapolis conference. They know what will happen once the IDF is withdrawn from Judea and Samaria.

In a famous 1923 article, Jabotinsky voiced his readiness “to take an oath binding ourselves and our descendants that we shall never do anything contrary to the principle of equal rights, and that we shall never try to eject anyone.”

Compare that to the heartbeat of the antisemitism prevalent in the world that its the terrorists 'Absolute Right' to attack, maim, injure, sabotage and overall kill & exterminate every Jew while giving those who attack Israel a free pass everytime!!

The Jews can live alongside and even tolerate Arabs within their population but the reverse cannot be tolerated especially since they want to destroy Israel.

Before the formation of Israel, Palestinian Arabs seemed to get along with Jews. Now, propaganda over decades has poisoned many of them.

I wonder how many still refuse to hate the Jews? I always assumed that the majority wanted to destroy the Jews. I'm not so sure now.

The Nakba was self-inflicted. The Arabs left voluntarily and not because the Jews forced them to flee. And their subsequent reception in Arab lands is in striking contrast to Israel's reception of Jews from around the planet. If blame is to be laid at anyone's feet, its at the feet of Palestinian leaders who profited handsomely from marinating their people in Jew hatred rather than trying improve their lot. That is why the conflict remains unresolved to this very day.

I still recall, while on a tour in Israel during a Navy port call in 1981, the tour guide telling us how the Jews “allowed” the Palestinians to live there but not to serve in the military or to hold public office.

How that attitude had changed since the founding of Israel (if this article can be believed).
