In an obvious attempt to be ignored for a while, Tom Hanks with no fanfare, news release or hoopla, late tonight put up a video on his MySpace page endorsing Illinois Sen. Barack Obama for president.
Had it come on, say, a Monday morning, the endorsement by the popular and widely-respected Hanks would have caused seismic shifts on those rock shelves that underlie Hollywood and promise to slide the place into the ocean someday.
Thanks to The Times' dauntless Tina Daunt, The Ticket, however, is right on top of this major international political story. "BEWARE," says the headline on Hanks' video, "Celebrity Endorsement."
"I'm Tom Hanks," Tom Hanks says directly into the camera in what looks like someone's den, "And I want Barack Obama to be the next president of our country. As an official celebrity, I know my endorsement has just made your mind up for you."
He continues in a straightfaced, tongue-in-cheek manner to seriously endorse the freshman senator. Hanks acknowledges all the candidates -- and some of their relatives, associates and supporters -- have made gaffes in recent weeks.
But he says he reads history sometimes and cites the groundbreaking peaceful turnover of power in 1797 from George Washington to John Adams as a major turning point in history. And says the same sort of corner can be turned by the election of the country's first African American president, a member of a race once officially considered only three-fifths of a person here.
He especially praises Obama's character and vision, integrity and ability...

He's still the highest paid star in Hollywood. His opinions on politics are irrelevant, but he's no has been. The Da Vinci code, his last big budget movie, grossed $760,000,000 -- a respectable take.
As with all celebrity endorsments, this one will have all the impact of pocket lint.
I’ll never figure out these Hollywood types. How can someone that has done some great work with really patriotic films such as Apollo 13, From The Earth To The Moon, Saving Private Ryan, Band of Brothers, etc support such an anti-American Marxist such as BHO? I’ll never figure it out.
Yeah, Hanks' video is apparently meant to be self-deprecating, but I think that's a facade designed to make people chuckle and stay tuned, thereby making them receptive to the message ("Hey, Obama's okay!"). The video is clever, in a sick, sneaky way. Thoroughly professional, but too clever by half, imo.
Unfortunately for him, big money and ho-wood fame do not translate into influence at the ballot box, which is what ho-wood really wants just as much as than anything else.
Ho-wood may be able to get most of the people worldwide to believe in its infantile, ineffective, fantasy bs, but it can't persuade the audience it most wants to destroy: The American People!

What he does on the screen is memorize lines, then act them out.
The actual plot or theme is someone else's thoughts put to script, for him to memorize.

Sorry; that certainly doesn’t sound grammatically correct. But when I see Michael Moore, the Kennedys and every other left winger out there for Obama, I head in the opposite direction.
And before Obama he endorsed Kerry.....and before that he endorsed Gore......it looks like he’ll be 0 for 3. These jerks are such losers.

Like the ingredients on the side of a box of food which lists them in order of their % content, this is first reason he lists why obama should be elected.
Which shows again the race of the candidate is the most important item to consider for liberals, ahead of experience, abioity or integrity.
Isn’t it reasonable to expect the actor who starred in “The Road to Perdition” to attempt to, you know, actually LEAD US THERE??
During a previous election cycle, some dimbulb reporter (redundancy there, eh!) asked Brad Pitt what HE thought about the candidates. Although, since he hooked up with miss over-rated pouchie lips, he’s now flipped to the left and says so, his earlier response was spot on:
“Why the hell you asking me? I’m just a f**king actor??”

Those movies have appeal, they sell, he knows that, he literally banks on it.
However, his current and previous picks for prez pretty much sum up his political tilt, and core values.
As meaningless a statement as any of Ears' speeches. Let's break it down for Forrest, shall we?
1) Character - you mean his associations with Rezko, Wright, Ayers? Yeah, they're quite the "character" to associate it with for >20 years and now claim you're clueless.
2) Vision - gee, unity & happiness for all. All it will cost us is 75% of my income going to the government. And all of his plans are wrapped up in nice, pretty platitudes with no specifics whatsoever.
3) Integrity - lying, backpedaling, obfuscating, lot's of 'ums' and 'uhs' in any two-way conversation. And there are still a LOT of slimy political connections just waiting to surface. Gives the Clintons real competition for the Corruption Title.
4) Ability - dammit, what is with you idiots? What has this guy accomplished to demonstrate this alleged 'ability'? Geez, I could make the exact same speeches. Does that mean I have the same 'ability'?

That flick was hardly anti-Christian; I can understand why a Catholic perspective would take issue with it.

Also, he produced John Adams on HBO. However, he sold his soul to Steven Spielberg along time ago.
