Seven former Democratic National Committee chairs who support Hillary Clintons presidential bid, and the family of one who is deceased, released a letter Friday arguing that she is the candidate best-equipped to beat John McCain in November.
The letter was signed by former party leaders Kenneth Curtis, Charles Manatt, Debra DeLee, Don Fowler, Steve Grossman, Pennsylvania Governor Edward Rendell, and Clinton adviser Terry McAuliffe. It was also signed by the family of the late Ron Brown, who served in the Clinton administration.
They write that if the election were held today, Hillary would beat Senator McCain, but Senator Obama would lose to the presumptive GOP nominee.
Hillary has run one of the most formidable campaigns in the history of our Party, the chairs wrote, listing Clintons primary season victories. Her base of support includes women, Hispanics, seniors, Catholics, middle and low income Americans, and rural, suburban and urban voters. Thats a formidable coalition tailor-made for victory in a November general election.
We encourage you to continue to fully consider Hillary Clinton and the fact that she is qualified and accomplished. Too much is at stake for us not to consider deeply the choice we must make for our Party and our country.
The letter comes hours after Barack Obamas campaign announced the endorsement of Paul Kirk, the second former DNC chair to endorse his presidential bid in two days. Kirk had been described as an Obama supporter in some campaign reports, but had not publicly stated his endorsement of the Illinois senator.

Although deceased, I bet he'll still vote in November!
‘Rats eating each other. Just like the good little Marxists they are.
Yeah they guys who got beat like drums by Reagan and Newt are really experts on how to WIN elections.
Hillary, who has much higher negatives then Obama, can beat McCain? Just how stupid ARE these guys?
Here’s my prediction: Neither of the two communists vying for the dem nod will beat John McCain in the general election.
For all who have sworn to never vote for John McCain please keep in mind these two words, “Supreme Court”
You may believe that McCain will not appoint the right kind of Justices but you can bet your bottom dollar that Hillary or Obama would appoint someone of their own communist ilk.
I’m not thrilled with McCain but he’s a damn’d sight better than the alternative and if there are two things that GWB did right it was Roberts and Alito.
Those FBI files are coming in mighty handy these days.
If Obama’s numbers continue to fall, by June, his candidacy may be history.
The DNC will need to re-evaluate whether to push ahead and prepare for a loss in November or bite the bullet early enough to try to unite the party and try for a win in November.
I don’t know if Hillary would beat McCain, but it would be a lot closer than Obama. Which is why Rush is nuts for pushing this Operation Chaos business.
Are we allowed to excerpt HuffPo? Found an article where Color of Change (~500K member black grassroots) is threatening sitting out the general if Hillary wins by overturning the pledged delegate count.
Former DNC chairs: Hillary would beat McCain today
Well I guess it's a good thing then that the election is still 6 months away!
What a crock, all these polls saying what would happen if the election were held today! If, if, if! Like my Mom used to say, “IF bullfrogs had wings they wouldn't bump their ass everytime they jump!”
That seems a bit weird, after the clintons arranged to have Ron Brown shot in the head, after he survived the plane crash.
On the other hand, Ron did die rich, thanks mostly to ClintBilly, so maybe they're grateful for that..
But the election is being held in November. By November John McCain will beat either of them.
And that is less a commentary on McCain’s strength than both Hillary and Barrak’s weaknesses.
So who do you work for stoodge? DNC? Moveon.org? Obama Campaign?
Don’t know. Could try it. I saw a repost of a Huffington piece of crap so propbably
I see the Obama fans are out. You really want Obama to have a free ride to the convention and all the dems attention to go back to McCain don’t you?
Hillary has been busy. Bet Dean hits the rocks in a couple of days.
Add two more to the Supreme Court: The Senate and House.
Yes, but Bush supported Miers as well, and practically the whole senate voted for Ginsberg. We’ve at least a fighting chance of getting at least an okay 2 or 3 justices, which would set the court up for the next 20 years, if McCain is in office. There’s practically zero chance of our strengthening the court—or even preserving what we have—if in contrast Hill or Barry gets to set the court up in the Democrats’ image.
