It came to me while I was having dinner with Doris Day. No, not that Doris Day. The Doris Day who is married to Col. Bud Day, Congressional Medal of Honor recipient, fighter pilot, Vietnam POW and roommate of John McCain at the Hanoi Hilton.
As we ate near the Days' home in Florida recently, I heard things about Sen. McCain that were deeply moving and politically troubling. Moving because they told me things about him the American people need to know. And troubling because it is clear that Mr. McCain is one of the most private individuals to run for president in history.
When it comes to choosing a president, the American people want to know more about a candidate than policy positions. They want to know about character, the values ingrained in his heart. For Mr. McCain, that means they will want to know more about him personally than he has been willing to reveal.
Mr. Day relayed to me one of the stories Americans should hear. It involves what happened to him after escaping from a North Vietnamese prison during the war. When he was recaptured, a Vietnamese captor broke his arm and said, "I told you I would make you a cripple."

You don’t see the irony of Mr Campaign Finance Reform helping a big contributor?
Aren’t you the clever one.
Bush Derangement Syndrome
How strange it is to deal with someone who, in the face of the greatest threat this nation has ever faced in the form of terrorism, can display such an amazing sense of insouciance. You and your friends who think alike remind me of nothing less then the Kamikazes who were willing to kill themselves for a principle. The difference here is at leasst they took a few from the other side with them and none from their own side.
You numb nuts are willing to take the rest of us right down the tubes along with you.
Perhaps after you out down the pipe and your head clears you'll see the light, but somehow I doubt it.
Sorry I can’t read your post. I have my bullsh*t filter on.
At the time I was in (boot camp 1960) it was still name rank and serial number only and jail time or worse if you gave anything else up. The fools on this forum that would hold any man or women even tangentially responsible for folding under torture are living in an alternate universe. It is also a fact they are McCain haters all and most if not all are probably long time DU posters who have been ordered to "come out" by their leaders.

Thank you.
That may be the case for you, but many here are voting the (R) brand.
And I disagree with you too, btw. At least FDR (and Carter too) had strength of character.
I believe he will prosecute the War on Terror, because he loves this country, and doesn't want to see the world in flames because of Islam. I also believe he'll choose people for the Supremes who will hew to the Constitution when hearing and deciding on, cases that come before them.

You are doing a good job. Unfortunately, reason and logical argumentation is not what the McCain bashers want.
I am unsure whether they really believe a man who received the Silver Star is a coward, but I know what they really hate about McCain. They hate McCain because he posed a solution to the illegal problem. They hate the Mexicans even more than they hate McCain. They will initially deny it and cover it over with claims “its just about not obeying the laws” but there is a test.
We could solve the illegal problem tomorrow with a national ID card. Bet that these “real conservatives” will oppose it because of, “...show me your papers...” paranoia.
In the meantime you are right in assuming anyone can be broken with time and effort. Actually, give me the help of skilled anesthesiologist and about an hour and a half and I will break anyone.
It isn’t fear of death that breaks a person (that helps) but the fear of psychological distress and pain that will do him in. The NVA were amateurs when it came to their efforts at breaking our aviators but they were vicious and uncompromising.
“Sorry I cant read your post. I have my bullsh*t filter on.”
You need to get that checked. The last line of your post 307 was the biggest load of bulls%#t I’ve seen here in a long, long time. The filter is evidently not working on your end.
You seem to know a lot about DU posters-—noob.
Sounds like a classic case of projection.
But then again you won’t be able to read this post either.
Based on what evidence? The track record of whom he has voted for and prevented from being voted upon does not support your "belief".
I've met and listened to McCain twice. I do not think he is capable of changing his views about anything he thinks he is right about. I don't like the sumbeatch but I'll vote for him.
