WASHINGTON (AP) -- Hillary Rodham Clinton now leads John McCain by 9 points in a head-to-head presidential matchup, according to an Associated Press-Ipsos poll that bolsters her argument that she is more electable than Democratic rival Barack Obama.
The survey released Monday gives the New York senator and former first lady a fresh talking point as she works to raise much-needed campaign cash and persuade pivotal undecided superdelegates to side with her in the drawn-out Democratic primary fight.
Helped by independents, young people and seniors, Clinton gained ground this month in a hypothetical match with Sen. McCain, the GOP nominee-in-waiting. She now leads McCain, 50 percent to 41 percent, while Obama remains virtually tied with McCain, 46 percent to 44 percent.
Both Democrats were roughly even with McCain in the previous poll about three weeks ago.
Since then, Clinton won the Pennsylvania primary, raising questions anew about whether Obama can attract broad swaths of voters needed to triumph in such big states come the fall when the Democratic nominee will go up against McCain.
Added Steve Lombardo, a GOP pollster: "This just reinforces the sentiment that a lot of Republican strategists are having right now -- that Clinton might actually be the more formidable fall candidate for a lot of reasons, not the least of which is that Obama can't seem to get his footing back."

Giving Hillary that "Sister Soljah" moment I mentioned earlier.
As I understood it, the whole point of OC was for Hillary to hang on to the convention and create "chaos." That's been accomplished. Short of a huge blowout in the remaining states by Obama, she isn't going anywhere.
However, by continuing to build up her delegate count and popular vote count, coupled with Obama's own gaffes, the Rev. Wright problem and his resultant falling in the polls, Rush and his acolytes are giving the superdelegates a perfect rationale to vote for her that will seem fair to all but the crazies.
And make no mistake: Hillary has always wanted an opportunity to look like the moderate compared to Obama and his followers. The more our side tears him down between now and the convention, the easier it is for her to do that.
If El Rushbo had any power, he could have kept the Republican idiots from voting for the RINO relic in the primaries. He couldn’t. There is no reason to believe that he has any more sway with ALL the idiots in the Democrat Party. I repeat if El Rushbo had any influence whatsoever with voters, the Keating Five Guy would not be the Republican nominee. Do not make El Rushbo more than he is.
Rush remembers how much $$$ he made in the 1990s.
Relax....he’s just a Bitcon...... a bitter conservative
The SD’s determine the nom, NOT voters!! Gees, open your eyes. Rush has created and is prolonging the bloodbath of the democrat party....SOMETHING YOUR MAN REFUSES TO DO.
Very, very much overrated.
Rush's encouragement might have convinced some Republicans to cross over and vote for Hillary, but I'm willing to be a considerable number of Clinton hating Republicans also crossed over to vote for Obama.
Any net effect was likely minimal.
Operation Chaos is and was first and foremost a marketing ploy by Rush. He managed to bring a lot of attention on himself and his show. He's managed to sell quite a few T-Shirts and get a lot of people (both Democrats and Republicans) riled up.
Hillary was leading in Ohio and was going to win it anyway. The end result of Operation Chaos couldn't have mattered more than a pledged delegate or two, and Clinton wasn't about to drop out.
However, Rush did manage to fan the flames of animosity within the Democratic Party, which is laudable.
He's also managed to cast a bit of a pall over Clinton's continued campaign among the conspiracy theory gullible left which will credit Rush with keeping her campaign alive and hate her even more for it.
If Hillary does somehow manage to win the nomination, it will be because Obama's cultivated image isn't able to stand up to criticism, and since Hillary wasn't going anywhere anyway, that would have happened regardless.
Rush has managed to fan the flames of strife within the Democratic Party, however he is also risking that whoever wins the nomination will manage to lay a lot of that strife off on his feet and pull the party back together.
It could have some positive effect, it could backfire, however most likely it isn't going to matter as much other than a way for Rush to bring more attention upon himself.
Mmmmmm, I suspect you’re correct.
I want some SERIOUS sauce on my pizzas!
If only Duncan Hunter could have gotten his message out there........this election would already be in the bag......
You Rush haters have convinced me that you are liberal liberal trolls just like seminar callers to his show. Otherwise you wouldn't mention the drug thing that is always part of the liberal mantra. If you are so much more intelligent than Rush why aren't you on the radio? I am beginning to hate you Rush haters.
LMAO!!!!!! Hahahaha, sorry, I never click on someones name!!!
You go guy!!!
I’ve noticed that too. He keeps telling his Rushbots to vote for Hillary no matter what the situation is. It is my opinion that he wants McCain to lose, and knows tht Hillary will be easier to beat McCain than Obama.
The media was talking about how John McCain was having a free ride while the Dems fight it out. It seems to me that it is Hillary that is getting the free ride. When was the last time you heard any dirt or anything negative about Hillary? You think there’s nothing out there on her? Hardly. Rush is letting his hatred cloud his judgement.
FrankR: "If Obama-llama-ding-dong wins the primary, ANYTHING and EVERYTHING the right does or says will be labeled "RACIST". However, with hillary, all bets are off...she'll be much easier and comfortable to run against."
Tall_tex: "I don't think that Rush hoped to get the weekest candidate nominated. He wanted to see the primary to go as long as possible to get Obama bloodied up."
Two completely contradictory goals there. One supporter thinks the plan is to nominate the weaker candidate (which he thinks is Hillary). The other thinks its to bloody up Obama.
In other words, the people carrying out this "plan" don't even understand-or can't agree-on what the goal is.
And we're expected to trust it?
The Clintons are playing Rush and a sizeable contingent of Freepers like a fiddle.
H has already had her sister Soljuh moment, when she dropped the Obama bombs of Rev Wrong-Way Wright and whoever taped the SF fundraiser. It has made her look like a moderate. Gone are the images of Cattle futures, FBI file-gate,Gays in the military,FBI head firing, Federal attorney firings, travel office firings and prosecutions ,Whitewater ,National Health Care, Craig Livingstone,Vince Foster, Chinese funny money et al.
As far as Rush, remember he guaranteed she wouldn't run for the senate.
It is a lot easier to blame Rush than to blame our candidate. It is like the people who blame us for terrorism. Kind of a cop-out really. Keeps you from facing the real monster, instead you fight shadows. Frankly, I think Operation Chaos is doing McCain a big favor. The left’s attacks are focused on itself versus him.
Bitcon.....I like it (hope you dont mind me stealing that one)!
I always thought of them as armchair pundits who sit listening to the radio, ranting they could do it (host their own program) better, yet never have the guts to go out and actually try it themselves. It is all subconscious jealousy that Rush pulls in $12Million a year and they don't have the guts to get out there themselves.
Geez, another one. Go back and see his listener count during his years. You trolls can't realize that Rush is great because he says what his listeners have always believed.
If you ever listened to him you would know he plays his pomposity to jerk liberals like some of you guys.
Yep. The media came up with the idea that Rush was affecting the primaries, so he did them one step better and gave them a name for it: Operation Chaos. The guy's a genius. Why not play along with the liberals and have fun while doing it.
