WASHINGTON (AP) -- Hillary Rodham Clinton now leads John McCain by 9 points in a head-to-head presidential matchup, according to an Associated Press-Ipsos poll that bolsters her argument that she is more electable than Democratic rival Barack Obama.
The survey released Monday gives the New York senator and former first lady a fresh talking point as she works to raise much-needed campaign cash and persuade pivotal undecided superdelegates to side with her in the drawn-out Democratic primary fight.
Helped by independents, young people and seniors, Clinton gained ground this month in a hypothetical match with Sen. McCain, the GOP nominee-in-waiting. She now leads McCain, 50 percent to 41 percent, while Obama remains virtually tied with McCain, 46 percent to 44 percent.
Both Democrats were roughly even with McCain in the previous poll about three weeks ago.
Since then, Clinton won the Pennsylvania primary, raising questions anew about whether Obama can attract broad swaths of voters needed to triumph in such big states come the fall when the Democratic nominee will go up against McCain.
Added Steve Lombardo, a GOP pollster: "This just reinforces the sentiment that a lot of Republican strategists are having right now -- that Clinton might actually be the more formidable fall candidate for a lot of reasons, not the least of which is that Obama can't seem to get his footing back."

“She even has Freepers now thinking she’s a “moderate” compared to Obama.”
She is. Besides, she’s not black so when you attack her it’s not labeled racist. You’ve got another ball of wax when it comes to obama hussein.
Hehehe. Yea. While I don't necessarily agree with Rush, I find it interesting that some would think a multimillionaire cares about some T-shirt sales.
I don’t know. But I DO know that Hillary will certainly not stand up for our military, nor Obama. I remember how she and Bill used them as butlers in the White House. Her husband cut funding for the military to dangerous levels. I want that person in charge?
But a man who has served his country and went through what he went through, and has a son (maybe 2 I think I heard) of his own in the Marines in Iraq, I figure he will have the military’s best interests in mind more than those other 2 libs. McCain wasn’t my first, second, third, or fourth choice in the primaries. But Obama or Hillary are far worse.
Awwww, look folks....another obama hussein troll has come for a visit.....
I see I was correct in my assessment of you. I would guess a large majority of Freepers are Rush fans so you consider yourself smarter than them too. I'll put it another way.
If you are so intelligent as to be able to ascertain how campaigns should be run, are you working for any candidate? I have. I spent every spare minute I had working for the goldwater campaign.
This poll is of “Adults” and it was completed after she got enormously positive press from her win in PA. If Hillary is the nominee 20% or more of Obama’s supporters will not vote for her. Lastly, if Obama is getting 90%+ of the black vote in primary after primary and Clinton swoops in at the 9th inning and steals the nomination, I can’t believe that she will attract more than 50 - 75% of the black vote in the general. I highly doubt McCain will attract more than 8% - 10% of the black vote, I think a huge number will just stay home.
If Hillary is the one selected by super delegates then the dems lose the blacks and lose the election even if they place Obama at the back of the bus in the VP slot (if they can force him there " for the good of the party).
The other gripe I have heard about Rush is that he gave us McCain by not supporting somebody conservative sooner (can't election laws) and b.s. because the republican leadership gave us this crappy election year. They are the stupid people that never learn who their voters are.
That would be true if Rush was a good strategist. At least when planning for the was in Iraq, combat tested generals are put in charge and they prepare for everything, even the unexpected. Not everything will go according to plan all the time, but you don’t put people in charge of running a war who have never done it before, or who have secret agendas that could be detrimental to their country.
Rush is in no way a general or has had any experience in running campaigns. He is winging it as he goes along and is letting his hatred of McCain cloud his judgement. That’s not a good way to run a war.
The bastards (Clintons) are still adored in Ohio, too. They WILL take this state if they get the nomination. Bet on it.
2007-05-07. Wow, I am starting to believe in myself more and more. Your words are almost exactly from the liberal mantra.
I don't listen to Rush much, but isn't his goal to cause chaos, not 'get someone elected'. From this quote, even Hillary doesn't understand what Rush is hoping to do.
Sounds like a lot of conservatives don't get it either...
“If you are so intelligent as to be able to ascertain how campaigns should be run, are you working for any candidate? I have. I spent every spare minute I had working for the goldwater campaign.”
If my memory serves me correctly, Goldwater got creamed by LB Johnson. Why should your campaign experience be listened to?
My God, man, where have you been since 1992?!?!?
Hillary has associated with anti-Americans, muslims and black racists since her days at Yale.
She even tried to get radical scholar Lani Guinier appointed Attorney General.
And if you think that Hillary doesn't plan massive wealth redistribution, you obviously didn't follow either her health care "reform" plan or her statements about taxing "windful" profits.
I respectfully submit that you're just 'whistling past the graveyard' when it comes to Hillary. She's every bit the Marxist that Obama is.
But a man who has served his country and went through what he went through, and has a son (maybe 2 I think I heard) of his own in the Marines in Iraq, I figure he will have the militarys best interests in mind more than those other 2 libs. McCain wasnt my first, second, third, or fourth choice in the primaries. But Obama or Hillary are far worse.
Look at both of your statements. You refer to them both in the "past tense". Please don't misunderstand me, I have no love for hill;however, I DO NOT see her as a cut and run. She had ample opportunity to PROMISE an immediate withdrawl frim Iraq and she WOULD NOT DO IT. Why? In my humble opinion, she does not want to be the 1st girl President to lose a war. Actually, she has made some pretty brazen statements about Iran recently, and they were not very nice. I think that bi**h is crazy enough to hit that "red button" if these animals piss her off enough.
mclame, I see as the opposite. When I look at him, I see Jimmy Carter. No, I have no reasoning behind this, it's just what the gut says. I have zero faith in this man doing what is right for our country, let alone our military. Sometimes, the enemy is right in your backyard and you don't even know it.
If she steals the nomination, she’ll name Obama her running mate, and he’ll GOTV in the black and latte liberal strongholds and on college campuses. In return she’ll promise him the full use of the Clinton machine when it’s his turn to run for POTUS. And he’ll grit his teeth and go along with it in order to maintain his viability within the party. He’s 46; he’s got plenty of time.
I believe you. It's an incredible thing to see how enthusiastic people are about Hillary here. Once she steals the nomination from Obama, she'll take McCain. She's tough, relentless, tireless, energetic, and people around here LOVE her.
“Forgive them, for they know not what they do...”
Thanks to all who have given Hillary (and therefore of course Bill) exactly what they knew they would get from the conservative side. And Rush calls it Operation Chaos? True, but it is the Clintons that have us in chaos. Utter mindblowing chaos.
This is exactly what the Clintons and their evil ilk dreamed up. They played us like strads again.
We will now almost surely be re-inflicted with the two most dangerous politicians this country has ever known...
Thanks so much, all of you self-righteous lemmings, for allowing Bill and Hill to stir up the racism factor and lead you straight off the Obama cliff.
Yes, I’m going off this site for a while again. Makes me sick what the Clintons have so deftly managed to do to our side, against all odds, yet again.
I've managed a number of successful political campaigns on the local level. I've also worked on larger campaigns, sometimes as the "precinct captain" for national or state candidates.
I don't claim to be a political genius, but I can tell when someone has their head up their posterier and, this time, that's Rush.
I'm not currently working for McCain because, to be candid, I have reservations about him, just as many of you do.
That being said, that doesn't mean I'm going to work to get either the closet Muslim or the one in the closet with a Muslim elected.
What about the Fairness Doctrine, aka the "Hush Rush" law? Wouldn't Hillary try to bring that back? And with Dems controlling the Congress, she may be able to pull it off.
