The Rev. Jeremiah Wright, explaining this morning why he had waited so long before breaking his silence about his incendiary sermons, offered a paraphrase from Proverbs: "It is better to be quiet and be thought a fool than to open your mouth and remove all doubt."
Barack Obama's pastor would have been wise to continue to heed that wisdom.
Should it become necessary in the months from now to identify the moment that doomed Obama's presidential aspirations, attention is likely to focus on the hour between nine and ten this morning at the National Press Club. It was then that Wright, Obama's longtime pastor, reignited a controversy about race from which Obama had only recently recovered - and added lighter fuel.
Speaking before an audience that included Marion Barry, Cornel West, Malik Zulu Shabazz of the New Black Panther Party and Nation of Islam official Jamil Muhammad, Wright praised Louis Farrakhan, defended the view that Zionism is racism, accused the United States of terrorism, repeated his view that the government created the AIDS virus to cause the genocide of racial minorities, stood by other past remarks ("God damn America") and held himself out as a spokesman for the black church in America.
In front of 30 television cameras, Wright's audience cheered him on as the minister mocked the media and, at one point, did a little victory dance on the podium. It seemed as if Wright, jokingly offering himself as Obama's vice president, was actually trying to doom Obama; a member of the head table, American Urban Radio's April Ryan, confirmed that Wright's security was provided by bodyguards from Farrakhan's Nation of Islam.
Wright suggested that Obama was insincere in distancing himself from his pastor. "He didn't distance himself," Wright announced."

It is a proverb. Although sometimes attributed to Abraham Lincoln, it’s true source is not known.
If you are a dhim superdelegate, and also an ELECTED dhimmirat politician,
you don’t DARE actually vote for one of the candidates while they are still both in the race.
At least Hillary’s campaign strategists get a day off with pay. Hell, if they can keep this Wright pouring out his pie hole in front of cameras they can take the next five months off.
I don’t see how Hillary can get the nomination. This Obama’s pastor not Obama. This torpedoes his presidential candidacy but not the primary.
The comments at the end of this article are amazing too in exposing the stupid in this country. I laughed at the one left wing moron who commented that Republicans are the reason Wright keeps getting air time exposing his true bigotry and hate.
At least Obama doesn't have this guy as his pastor.
[Thulsa Doom's final speech to his followers in the director's cut]
Thulsa Doom: Purging is at last at hand. Day of Doom is here. All that is evil, all their allies; your parents, your leaders, those who would call themselves your judges; those who have lied and corrupted the Earth, they shall all be cleansed.
Children of Doom: [chanting] Doom!
Thulsa Doom: You, my children, are the water that will wash away all that has gone before. In your hand, you hold my light, the gleam in the eye of Set. This flame will burn away the darkness, burn you the way to paradise!
Thulsa Doom: Infidel Defilers. They shall all drown in lakes of blood.
But then hard to tell the difference from what they preach.
Wright just handed Hillary the club to beat Obama to death.
Obama has met his Waterloo. Stick a fork in him...he’s done.
This torpedoes his presidential candidacy but not the primary.Well, I don't think the Democrats can veer off their collision course at this point, but the fact that it torpedoes his presidential candidacy is precisely why it might torpedo the primary.
It is a proverb, lower case "p". The ignorance of reporters knows no bounds.
The earliest reference I've found attributed it to Abraham Lincoln, though it may be older than that.
A very appropriate proverb.
There’s a guy out there if you google him, name Larry Sinclair. I can’t get a straight answer from any of the sites listed on whether or not the guy has an ounce of validity. If he does then the candidacy is over since he makes some wild accusations regarding Obama’s drug use. He could be a Hillary plant also.
Just forget about Larry Sinclair.
He’s has no credibility whatsoever and would never get any attention from the MSM even if he did.
Still, as a physician, I have never met a cocaine user who was trustworthy. His cocaine use is being swept under the rug. I’m sure there are people out there with whom he did drugs with. I’m surprised Hillary hasn’t surfaced them. The drug use issue is better left towards the end of the campaign as that will stick in the minds of the superdelegates.

Stick a fork in him, McCain is done!
McCain?
Oh, yeah, McCain will find a way to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.....
As to Wright's "If you think I'm going to let you talk about my mama and her religious tradition, and my daddy and his religious tradition and my grandma, you got another thing coming."
Well, from From: Black Liberation Theology Wikipedia article it says:
"The modern American origins of contemporary black liberation theology can be traced to July 31, 1966, when an ad hoc group of 51 black pastors, calling themselves the National Committee of Negro Churchmen (NCNC), bought a full page ad in the New York Times to publish their "Black Power Statement," which proposed a more aggressive approach to combating racism using the Bible for inspiration."
So that long history of Rev Wright's particular brand of Black Religion only goes back to 1966. Looks like Rev Wright must have had a really, really young Grandmother!
And as to the core belief of Black Liberation Theology as expressed so hardily by James Cone and praised by Rev Wright:
"Black theology refuses to accept a God who is not identified totally with the goals of the black community. If God is not for us and against white people, then he is a murderer, and we had better kill him. The task of black theology is to kill Gods who do not belong to the black community ... Black theology will accept only the love of God which participates in the destruction of the white enemy. What we need is the divine love as expressed in Black Power, which is the power of black people to destroy their oppressors here and now by any means at their disposal. Unless God is participating in this holy activity, we must reject his love." * A Black Theology of Liberation By James H. Cone 1990 ISBN-10: 0883446855 Page 27
Well, Rev Wright sure comes across as truly believing: "If God is not for us and against white people, then he is a murderer, and we had better kill him." And it appear he is ready to roll up his sleeves and get into this up to his elbows and beyond!
If this is not enough to kill off any chance of Obama becoming President, then we typical white people better arm ourselves and prepare to meet our doom. It ain't only God Wright and his crowd want to kill off.
