Our parents told us TV would melt our brains. While it's possible "Punky Brewster" and "A-Team" did just that, along the way we saw some genius art. Television can't play 90 minutes on the big screen and vanish into the bargain bin. And it lacks one author to take it from introduction to the final page. Yet within these boundaries, there are a small number of shows that capture our attention, our obsession, and create enduring stories. How many? 35. They're listed here.

Agree, The Fugitive was great....loved watching it every week.....and the ending show was the most watched program ever up til that time...

Yes, had forgotten the Wild Wild West - definitely the most creative western ever....
The Prisoner - certainly one of the most original TV show ever, and the best TV theme ever.

Am so glad somebody mentioned the Roy Rogers Show....and his old movies....were good...Saturday morning Cowboy movies...great - Hopalong Cassidy, Roy Rogers, many others.
Yes, the early years of All in the Family - the best. I don’t remember Sammy Davis Jr being on there——but do remember the Jeffersons next door - super terrific...and loved “The Jeffersons”.....Moving on up....

Oh, OK, I remember that one, too. Actually, I think both the rocket and the tank were two of the ‘running gags’ they used to have on there to milk more stories.
