Its old my "parents made me do it" excuse for murder.

Poor neglected terrorist sniper, he once got soggy french fries in his McDonald’s UnHappy Meal. Surely he should be spared the death penalty for -that- unfortunate childhood event? Are we barbarians or what?

Yeah they would!

When someone does something that freakazoid, we assume something really strange must have happened along the way to make him that evil.
Maybe his parents were mean to him, maybe he got caught up in some kind of evil death cult, who’s to say.
Either way, it doesn’t change the appropriate penalty for a serial, lay-in-wait mass murderer. Its the hangman’s rope, or whatever is the modern equivalent these days. He should ask God’s forgiveness, ask God to save his soul, and then go to the gallows like a man.

Jurors might not have sentenced convicted sniper John Allen Muhammad to death if they had known that he was abused as a child, that he has brain damage and that there were conflicting witness accounts to some of the shootings, Muhammad's appeals lawyers argued in court papers this week. Who's funding the lawyers?

I wonder if juries will ever stop falling for that old “abused as a child” defense.
