New State Department lexicon forbids use of the words "jihad" or "jihadist"
Jihad Watch ^ | April 22 08 | Robert Spencer

Posted on 04/22/2008 5:45:23 AM PDT by camerakid400

A reliable source has informed me that Condoleeza Rice has approved a new lexicon for State Department usage, absolutely forbidding the use of the terms "jihad" and "jihadist" by any State Department official.

The argument, of course, is the old Streusand/Guirard claim that by using the word jihad, we're validating the jihadist claim to be waging jihad. Of course, it's ridiculous to think that the U.S. State Department carries any validating authority within the Islamic world to determine what is Islam and what isn't. This would be the first time that unbelievers have set the meaning of Islamic theology for Muslims.

Also, the claim is that by using the word "jihad," we are insulting the peaceful Muslims who are waging the daily jihad of the struggle against sin, the struggle against the dirty dishes, etc. And that's great, if that's what any Muslim actually believes is the sum and substance of jihad, but it is an understanding of jihad that is at odds with the Qur'an, the Sunnah, and all the schools of Islamic jurisprudence. Will Muslims be insulted by a reference to other Muslims using the traditional primary meaning of jihad? Answer: probably. But that doesn't negate the traditional status of that meaning, or the influence of that traditional view in the Islamic world.

I will publish more information on this when possible.

They aren’t Fascists. They follow a different political order, theocratic Islam. They push for Islamic tyranny.

The Muslim Brotherhood, Wahabis, etc all push for one world under Islam.

Whether that cultural battle is fought with bullets or courts, it is against everything our nation was founded upon. We will not live under a religious institution and cannot bow to an Islamic state.

Saudi Arabia prohibits the practice of any faith other than Islam. They treat non-muslims as second class citizens under the law. Non-muslims can be executed for entering the segregated cities of Mecca and Medina. There can be no separation of religious institution and State as long as the Saudi government is permitted to fund the construction of mosques in America.

PS It pains me greatly to think about how very differently we would be acting if we actually wanted to WIN this war.

Well, we had a Presidential candidate in the primary who spoke repeatedly about cleaning out State, saying the "era of anti-Americanism must end".

Unfortunately here on FR all we saw were pics of him in a dress (he wore for a charity event),.

Evidently the Republican base could care less about State.

The degree of control and uniformity advocated by these groups, combined with the use of “despised other peoples” to put all the blame for their troubles on, is certainly akin to Fascism to me, but I understand your distinction. Theocrats is sufficient for me.

“Whether that cultural battle is fought with bullets or courts, it is against everything our nation was founded upon. We will not live under a religious institution and cannot bow to an Islamic state.”

Exactly so!

I’m not so sure it is PC. I think its good tactics.

This might actually make sense.

Since "jihad" means "holy war" or "holy struggle," calling the radical Islamics "jihadists" validates their central claim - that they are warriors doing the will of God.

Of course, this is the State Department we're talking about. I'll be interested to see what term they select to replace it...

"More State Dept. PC!"

The State Department has long been at the top of the list of useless bureaucrats who are so left wing and incompetent they are unable to do anything to advance American interests anywhere. In fact, they are a net negative in that respect. It is no accident they are called "foggy bottom".

The list of useless, corrupt and incompetent federal departments is growing steadily, with a corresponding increase in the level of distrust of the federal government overall. For example, is there anyone that can honestly say the FBI and CIA are trustworthy?

Now we have the chance to pick a new president from a list of three corrupt losers you wouldn't invite into your home under any circumstances.

Doesn't look to me like things are going to improve anytime soon.

I’d crawl over broken glass to vote for anyone who would rename the “DoD” back to “war department”..

******Jihad (Arabic: جهاد‎ IPA: [ ʤi'haːd]), an Islamic term, is a religious duty of Muslims. In Arabic, Jihad means "strive" or "struggle". Jihad appears frequently in the Qur'an and common usage as the idiomatic expression "striving in the way of Allah (al-jihad fi sabil Allah)".[1][2] A person engaged in jihad is called a mujahid, the plural is mujahideen.******

Above from Wikipeda. Strive or struggle are found in all religions. Rice really goofed on this one. Maybe she's an atheist and doesn't care what jihad means.
