The Real Jimmy Carter
Newsmax ^ | April 1, 008 | Ronald Kessler

Posted on 04/21/2008 8:35:34 PM PDT by MtnClimber

As former President Jimmy Carter met with Hamas leaders and laid a wreath at the tomb of terrorist Yasser Arafat, Americans were wondering who Carter really is.

Carter came into office portraying himself as a man of the people, a peanut farmer who cares about the problems of working class Americans. But Secret Service agents, Air Force One stewards, and White House residence staff saw an entirely different picture.Snip.... If the true measure of a man is how he treats the little people, Carter flunked the test. Inside the White House, Carter treated those who helped and protected him with contempt.

“When Carter first came there, he didn’t want the police officers and agents looking at him or speaking to him when he went to the office,” Nelson Pierce, an assistant White House usher, told me for my book "Inside the White House: The Hidden Lives of the Modern Presidents and the Secrets of the World's Most Powerful Institutions." “He didn’t want them to pay attention to him going by. I never could understand why. He was not going to the Oval Office without shoes or a robe.” [Editor's Note: Get Ron Kessler's book. Go here now.]

“We never spoke unless spoken to,” said Fred Walzel, who was chief of the White House branch of the Secret Service Uniformed Division. “Carter complained that he didn’t want them [the officers] to say hello.”

“Carter came into the cockpit once in the two years I was on with him,” James A. Buzzelli, an Air Force One flight engineer, told me. “But [Ronald] Reagan never got on or off without sticking his head in the cockpit and saying, ‘Thanks, fellas,’ or ‘Have a nice day.’

What an elitist, typical Democrat, trying to play God over others. A micro-manager who screwed up when other lives were at stake. No wonder he likes Chavez and Hamas.

Lets remember the legacy of past democrats like Carter. In fact, Johnson controlled the Vietnam war to the same extent and prevented our defense of the free South Vietnam government. He is probably indirectly responsible for the deaths of 1-2 million people.

A good account of the contrast between the way conservatives treat those who work under and serve them versus the way liberals do should read Gary Aldrich’s book “Unlimited Access”.

Apparently, at one point career White House employees were quitting or thinking of quitting (including the entire kitchen staff) because of the rude treatment given by the Clintons.

Contrast that with Reagan, GHW Bush and GW Bush who treated those under them with respect.

The way Kerry treated the Secret Service guy who bumped into him skiing is typical liberal behavior.

I read the Newsmax article with snips from Ron Kessler’s book. I am a little troubled by the verbiage. Wasn’t Kessler’s book on the Clinton’s that he used the same stories about Hillary?

The last thing Jimmy Carter got right was when he resigned from the Navy.

>> Carter complained that he didn’t want them [the officers] to say hello.

Typical lefty rat elitist behavior. Some years ago, as airline pilots, we were laying over in the same hotel as Babs Streisand. The staff were instructed to avert their gaze and stare at the floor if they saw her coming. “We’ll fire you if you try to talk to her” was the word. She even demanded that the toilet seats be changed to new ones in her suite. Then they grovel at the feet of Chavez and Hamas. Go figure.

This sounds almost exactly like a widely circulated e-mail I received about how the Clintons treated the secret service. Partly because of that I find it a little hard to believe, but also because Carter struck me much more as an amiable dufus than as mean spirited.

I hope that people who think Carter is just a misguided ignoramus read this. He is a dink.

yes, you speak the truth. I breaks my heart the way conservatives, and our president (sometimes misguided but always courageous in his convictions) are so hated, maligned and vilified. What a bad rap. Conservatives are, by and large, compassionate, kind and graceful in spirit. Because we don’t nag, whine and moan, yell, shriek, sputter or explode, we’re judged as either lame, weak and uncaring, or stone-cold and diabolically evil.

Gee - did I just say all that?? Frustrations coming out, I guess. But it’s true, and we should be getting sick and tired of it. Despite the recent (and temporary) Dem. rifts, WE need to get more serious and united. We may yet reclaim some of the all-critical seats in congress. Did we learn our lesson in ‘06???

he’s NO dufus, just one exceptionally, deceptively bright dude with a BAD agenda who knows how to use the “country hick, aw shucks” grin to disarm the unsuspecting. Danger, Will Robinson, Danger.
