Saddam Hussein's cousin, whose execution has been delayed for months in a complex legal and political battle, has been hospitalized after going on a hunger strike, his lawyer said Monday.
Ali Hassan al-Majid, known as "Chemical Ali" for the strikes he ordered against Kurds in the 1980s, and co-defendant Abdul-Ghani Abdul-Ghafour were admitted to a US medical facility on Sunday after they passed out, their defense attorney said.
The US military confirmed that al-Majid was hospitalized on Sunday and said he is in stable condition. But it could not immediately confirm the information about Abdul-Ghafour or provide more details.
Al-Majid has been sentenced to hang for his role in a brutal crackdown against the Kurds in the 1980s. He is also on trial in a separate case stemming from the suppression of a 1991 Shiite uprising against Saddam's Sunni-dominated regime.
Defense attorney Badee Izzat Aref said al-Majid, Abdul-Ghafour and 13 other co-defendants in the Shiite uprising trial started a hunger strike on Friday to protest an order forcing them to stay in cramped quarters at the courthouse instead of their regular cells at the US detention facility Camp Cropper.
How about we force-feed him an entire rotten pig so that he doesn’t starve to death?
Maybe he can have a slow, nasty demise. Fitting for a miserable rat b@$tard like him.
Seems to be a problem that takes care of itself.
If he doesn't want to eat, set up a applewood fired grill outside his cell and barbeque baby backs and spare ribs.
Hunger Strike? So whose force-feeding him? Let him die........slowly
agreed and hopefully in great pain as he checks out.
Nice idea, but I don't think we could convince the Iraqis to go along with it, unfortunately. How about if we get them to keep him on an IV until they straighten out the legal difficulties holding up his execution? Or maybe he needs a feeding tube inserted into his gut. It would be a shame if he missed his hanging by committing suicide, don't you think?
Hunger strike? Here in America, we call it a “diet.”
Paraphrasing, “Let him eat yellowcake.”

Someone ought to remind Chemical Ali that the less he weighs the longer he is going to drop. One way or the other, the hangman will not be cheated.
How freaking complex can the guy’s case be? The evidence against him was almost as complete as that against Saddam, and it sure didn’t take too long to execute him.
They just want to fatten him up for the kill.
We’re thinking along the same lines. Why are the Iraqis bothering to get him healthy, only to hang him? He wants to suffer with hunger until he dies? I say, let him.
LOL! That’s brilliant! Ha-ha!
Then he would be in control.
I remember that was decided as bliss in Florida.
Okay, okay. I'll go along with your plan, but only if he's forced to watch Teletubbies on full volume for 22 hours a day, and someone comes in to slap the livin' crap out of him at least twice a day.
Quite true. The hangmen at the Nuremburg Trials failed to account for the weight the Nazis lost in calculating the necessary counterweight, the result of which had them die slower and more agonizingly. Poor fellows.
