Congressional Drug testing - Unannounced
April 21, 2008 | William Craun

Posted on 04/21/2008 1:38:30 PM PDT by wac3rd

I get philsophical sometimes when I go running and have time to think outside the house and workplace...

A question to all my fellow Freepers...

During a joint session of Congress, could we simutaneously drug test all of our elected Federal representatives/Senators, judges and Excutive Branch employees?

Could we have one same-sex military person stand there while Mr. Levin, Mrs. Ginsberg, Mr. Bush or Mr. Lott gives a urine sample, unannounced?

If private sector, local, state and Federal employees are required to submit to a drug test, can one be done to the lawmakers?

Just a ponderance...

That’s a good idea but, even if they tested positive, they’d get off clean.

A piss test and a polygraph. If they flunk either of them they go to Gitmo with the rest of the treasonous POS’s.

I am saying have all of their lawyers notified at the same time to the official Federal testing lab.

If you have an unauthorized substance, you will pay the price, unless you have a prescription.

Also include disqualification for a history of alcoholism, any psychiatric drugs e.g. serotonin reuptake inhibitors, or history of psychiatric treatment or mental problems. If you aren’t qualified to fly a commericial airliner, you shouldn’t be qualified to legislate.

You maybe could get away with this in the legislative branch if it was before a vote on illegal drugs.

I'm not sure how you'd do it in the executive.

You could introduce a random drug test for congress bill*, let me know what your representative has to say!

No way. They all have diplomatic immunity from any charge at all times. They're untouchable and not accountable to the same standards and laws as the common folk who suffer under the yoke of their tyrannical rule.

Not that I'm bitter or anything. :-)

For members of Congress I think sanity and IQ tests might be more useful, though I would expect not many in either party would pass.

Practically speaking, no.

Congress often exempts themselves from workplace laws.

So,

For those with a clearance. Your boss and those telling you what the priorities in life are, who the threats and targets are, they can be pot heads, adulterers, have affiliations with terrorists, be members of groups advocating the violent overthrow of the government, have their finances out of whack, have filed for bankruptcy, accept money from foreign governments, hire illegals, drive drunk, get caught with $50,000 in a freezer, snort cocaine and get caught, violate travel restrictions to hostile nations. Now, when you respectfully sit next to some of these leaders like Kennedy who drove a girl into a river while drunk and then lied about it; remember, be courteous and respectful, and these guys tell you what to do. I wonder, how many that are our government making policy would qualify for a compartmental TS with poly?

Probably a considerable percentage wouldn't.

However, I don't think the requirement for a clearance are unreasonable.

I also don't think you can place the same requirements on elected officials.

I think they should be more carefully scrutinized, and prosecuted if found breaking the law.

However, I think that people should have the choice to elect people who, while not necessarily criminal, don't have an overly great track record.

To a great extent it is and should be the voters that get to determine is a legislator is qualified. I'm disgusted with a lot of their choices, but we can't have a free society without people having the ability to make some bad choices.

I don’t want Congressmen on Zoloft, Paxil, whatever.

They should have their stuff wired tighter than us peons, yet they need drugs?

Wait a minute!

Are you seriously asking for those in power to actually live by the rules that they have required us to live by?

Are you really asking for our ‘leaders’ to set a positive example for our countrymen, our children and for all people around the world?

Are you suggesting that those that have promised on oath and affirmation, should keep their promises to God and to each one of us....by living up to the standards that our forefathers set into motion.... over 200 years ago?

Might you be saying that our leaders should be true leaders that our country can be proud of?

YOU are a dreamer, but not the only one......;>)

I find it easier to believe in, and support the country we once had, than I do for the country I am afraid our children may inherit from us.
