Shocker! Scaife endorses Hillary
'Right-wing conspiracy' leader now pushes Clinton for prez
WASHINGTON Richard Mellon Scaife, formerly No. 1 on Bill Clinton's enemies list as the so-called "marionette" of the "vast right-wing conspiracy," today formally endorsed Hillary Rodham Clinton for president proving, once again, politics makes strange bedfellows.
Scaife, who personally funded many of the investigations of the Clinton administration that led to the president's impeachment, used his Pittsburgh Tribune-Review newspaper to express support for Clinton.
Clinton faces a do-or-die primary in Pennsylvania Tuesday. Most state newspapers have endorsed her opponent, Barack Obama.
The Tribune-Review cited Obama's lack of experience and his widely criticized comments about bitter voters living in small towns.
"In sharp contrast, Clinton is far more experienced in government as an engaged first lady to a governor and a president, as a second-term senator in her own right," the paper's editorial said. "She has a real voting record on key issues. Agree with her or not, you at least know where she stands instead of being forced to wonder."
As surprising as the endorsement might appear, it is not entirely unexpected. Last month, Clinton met with the Tribune-Review's editorial board and Scaife, who also is a principle owner of NewsMax.com. Following that meeting, Scaife penned a personal editorial titled "Hillary, Reassessed," declaring how impressed he had been by the former first lady.
"Her meeting and her remarks during it changed my mind about her," Scaife wrote.
Scaife's mind has been changing about the Clintons for some time, as WND previously reported.
There is little question that when then-first lady Hillary Clinton famously lashed out at foes as a "vast, right-wing conspiracy," Scaife was one of the people on her mind....

Get what, you silly person?
LOL!!! You guys are killing me.
I hate to leave this but the better half says if I don’t come and eat she’s going to throw it out, she would too. ;-)
See y’all later.
Night, partner! Catch you tomorrow!
See y'all tomorrow. :)
I’d be willing to bet you Hillary promised a nice safe Clinton crony lawyer and judge to take care of his business.
From what this sounds like, old Mellon head has more in common with Hillary’s husband than anybody else.
I noticed that Limbacher and Le Boutillier are no longer on the Newsmax site.
“Roo” Murdoch never cared about America, except for our money. But Scaife should know better than to back Shrillary...I wonder who’s using whom?
“Or, like Murdock, he may just be supporting who he believes will win, for whatever benefit he can get out of it.”
I refuse to think so poorly of my country as to believe that HRC could win. I’m sure Richard Mellon Scaife is sane enough to realize that she can’t.
Perhaps his life style.
Jaz, from the looks on our faces, it looks like we’d been drinking to everything and anything.
You can’t be too picky when the champagne is flowing.
WND doesn't have as good a record for accuracy as it should. This mistake is a classic example ... construing the endorsement for the primary as an endorsement for the presidential race.
It definitely looks like a good time was being had by all. :-)
Isn’t this kind of like the New York Slimes endorsing John McCain in the New Hampshire primary? It was only the primaries. They’re not saying they’re going to endorse her in the general election...just that between her and Obama, they’re giving the endorsement to her. I don’t see this as any big deal. They’ll endorse McCain in the general, I believe...just IMHO.

Nothing compelled the Tribune-Review to endorse either candidate.
Scaife has had a complete turnaround from his earlier position on the Clintons. That’s what makes this newsworthy. Whether he endorses another candidate in the GE is irrelevant. He has now officially made peace with the Clintons. The how and the why is still unclear.
I don’t think so. This paper endorsed Kerry over Bush in ‘04 and Murtha over Irey in ‘06. I don’t expect they will endorse McCain in the General Election.
That's not a mistake, it's a conservative point of view.
WND is one place to get info conservatives will never get otherwise.
It's a dirty shame to bad-mouth the site.
