What started as a suspected kidnapping ended with a surprise for sheriff's deputies in Cumberland County, Tennessee on Monday.
A 911 caller told police that she had seen a boy being forced into the trunk of a car.
Deputies quickly located the Toyota Corolla described by the caller and pulled it over.
When the boy got out of the trunk, the driver and passenger, Cory McDaniel and Rhonda Howard, told the deputies that a big television wouldn't fit in the trunk, so they put the boy in the trunk and the TV in the back seat.
The young teen was Howard's brother.
"He did it voluntarily. It made sense to him too, I guess," said Cumberland County Sheriff Butch Burgess.
Most residents that heard about what happened are laughing and trying to understand the logic of putting someone in the trunk for the sake of a TV.
Howard and McDaniel aren't laughing.
They've been charged with endangering a minor.

Eeh, the kid’s OK, and agreed to it. I’d chalk this up to just another Jeff Foxworthy-style “you might be a redneck” thing and move on with life.

Gee, haven’t they ever seen Speed Racer? Kids LOVE to stow away in the trunk.
The big families in our church now have to resort to 12/15 passenger vans because of airbags/mandatory safety seats.
In the old days, you could fit seven in a Dodge Dart, toss at least nine in a Chevy Impala, and 12 or 13 in a Ford Country Squire station wagon. Better gas mileage, too!

They’re in trouble because they didn’t have their BABY IN TRUNK bumpersticker.

Kind of like sneaking into the drive through movie theater by hiding in the trunk.
I can see this happening with the smaller cars, the trunks arn't that bad as far as space goes, its the opening of the trunk that's small. I think they do that to get you to spend $10 grand more on a SUV.

Most Americans would put their mother in the trunk for a 5” black and white TV. For a large flat screen, they’d tie her to the roof.
To: Responsibility2nd
Guess they don’t have a flat screen TV ... they take up less space and maybe the two of them could have enjoyed the back seat.
BTW, how old was this boy who was put in the trunk?

Aw, C'mon! That's an easy mistake to make! They're both noisy, expensive, take up too much space, and you have to change both regularly!

When I was growing up five kids fit fine in a 4-door Plymouth Fury. Nowadays even an Expedition is a tight squeeze for a large family if you have any luggage or groceries.
