Mayhill Fowler has more from Obama's remarks at a San Francisco fundraiser Sunday, and they include an attempt to explain the resentment in small-town Pennsylvania that won't be appreciated by some of the people whose votes Obama's seeking:
You go into these small towns in Pennsylvania and, like a lot of small towns in the Midwest, the jobs have been gone now for 25 years and nothing's replaced them...And they fell through the Clinton Administration, and the Bush Administration, and each successive administration has said that somehow these communities are gonna regenerate and they have not.
And it's not surprising then they get bitter, they cling to guns or religion or antipathy to people who aren't like them or anti-immigrant sentiment or anti-trade sentiment as a way to explain their frustrations.
That's pretty broad list of things to explain with job loss.

Most of the people in the small towns of Pennsylvania are from recent immigrant stock themselves - Lithuanians, Italians, Poles, German Jews, Slovaks, Croations. The worked the mines and steel mills and the factories.
They came here legally, through Ellis Island. They wanted to be Americans, not Salvadorans and Mexicans looking for money with no interest in the country they sneaked into. They are not anti-immigrant - they are anti-ILLEGAL Immigrant.
These liberals are some of the most ignorant, arrogant, and hateful people on earth. For all their "compassion", they wouldn't get near an illegal alien or allow them in their homes - except to paint the walls at slave wages.

Hrmmm... 25 years... quite a long time to be without a job! That is at least one generation, maybe two depending on how you count it. I wonder how they have survived as a town?

What BO is missing is the concept of a “support community” for a surrounding “business” called “farming”. I grew up in a small town in North Central Missouri that had a few industries that came and went, but the town still exists pretty much in the same state today as when I went to High School there. This is because the PRIMARY purpose of the town was as a support center for the local farmers. It was a place to buy groceries, send their kids to school, and buy/sell their produce. IT was NOT a place to make cars, jet engines, airplanes, or trade stocks! That part of the town never went away!! I suspect most of the small towns are about the same... support centers for local business such as agriculture, mining, tourism, or whatever.
His statements is inherently false because he tries to paint ALL with the same brush derived from his limited library of stereotypes! This is the logical fallacy of arguing from the specific to the general. I believe this guy has been “educated beyond the limits of his intelligence”!
