Obama declines to criticize Carter on Hamas Fri Apr 11, 2008 1:08pm EDT
By Caren Bohan
INDIANAPOLIS (Reuters) - U.S. Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama said on Friday it was not his place to criticize former President Jimmy Carter for agreeing to meet with Hamas, although Obama said he would not meet with the militant Palestinian group.
The former U.S. president's plans to meet with the leader of Hamas during a nine-day trip the Middle East beginning Sunday have drawn criticism from both the Bush administration and close U.S. ally Israel.
"I'm not going to comment on former President Carter. He's a private citizen. It's not my place to discuss who he shouldn't meet with," Obama told reporters while campaigning in Indianapolis. "I know that I've said consistently that I would not meet with Hamas."
Carter has not publicly backed either candidate in the Democratic race but hinted recently that he supports Obama.
Carter's planned trip creates awkwardness for the Illinois senator, whose critics have sought to raise doubts about whether he might be inclined as president to put greater pressure on Israel to make concessions in peace talks with the Palestinians.
Such doubts could cost Obama support with some U.S. Jewish voters.

I wonder whether he’s being Clintonian and that what he means is something like “I PERSONALLY wouldn’t meet with them but i see no reason to send my subordinates, like my secretary of state, to do so”
That’s because they sent some white bureaucrat to try to negotiate with Hitler.
They needed to send a dope pushing hustler from the streets. Obama is “worldly”. He has skillz.
No, No, No, the press better get very specific with Ol’ Hussein Obama the Liberal...because when liberals say they won’t do something it has got to be exact. In other words I am sure that if he was sitting down to a Hookah smoking a bowl with Amadmanjihad and one of those Hamas or Hezzballah leaders happen to be at the same party well then of course he kept his word.... Right?
Lets see how Obama explains away Ayers... just like with Wright...I don’t agree with their ideologies and of course we don’t share the same views but I wouldn’t correct them when they spewed their America hatred... I mean they have freedom of speech ... Right?
Don Imus is a private citizen too. But Obama felt free to not only comment on him, but call for him to be fired.
Thank you for the clear example of catching Obama in a LIE. While both “may” be private citizens now, it is NOT the reason for Obama’s refusal to comment.
You can keep up with the Obama Laundry List of Lies here. At the moment it’s at 72 and counting.

The man’s a wimp. Oh, he’s also neurotic and a drama queen. God Bless the United States, if this man gets elected President.
Obama criticizes ex-President Carter's Hamas meeting (reuters 4/16/08)
Democratic White House hopeful Barack Obama on Wednesday disagreed with former President Jimmy Carter's overtures toward Hamas, saying he would not talk to the Islamist group until it recognized Israel and renounced terrorism. The Illinois senator, campaigning in Pennsylvania which holds the next presidential voting contest on Tuesday, told a group of Jewish leaders he has an "unshakable commitment" to help protect Israel from its "bitter enemies."
"That's why I have a fundamental difference with President Carter and disagree with his decision to meet with Hamas," Obama said. "We must not negotiate with a terrorist group intent on Israel's destruction. We should only sit down with Hamas if they renounce terrorism, recognize Israel's right to exist and abide by past agreements."
BUMP, make sure this makes the list of lies...
