Updates welcome. The story just showed up. Casus belli ?
(Excerpt) Read more at foxnews.com ...
"From November 2001 on, the CYCLONE - class ships were temporarily operated under US Coast Guard control for homeland defense."
Three inch guns are the standard 'large' weapon for the Coast Guard. (Usually id'ed as a 76mm.) See the 'Bear' and 'Hamilton' classes.
The ship's probably too small, but it would be nice if it could be brought up to Coast Guard standards.
Remember, by treaty that's the largest gun that can be used on the Great Lakes. No telling when the Canadians will need to be dealt with again.
> The Navy says a ship encountered a small Iranian high-speed boat in the central Persian Gulf and warned it away by firing a flare.
What a shame, an a waste of a perfectly good flare. A short burst from one of the Oerlikons would have been a much better use of Navy materiel.
WOW.
Makes ya’ wonder where they all went...;0)
Or its fuel tank.
Running a little rich??? Or something???
Glad I stayed out of the bilges...;-)
If all it took was a flare this time...Cool...
At some point someone is going to realize (again) that these little gomer boat operators don’t carry much in the way of communications gear...Even a rudimentary maritime radio set with the B to B channel...
Those 25mm make quite a statement just by themselves...A very serious statement...
But Iran is just going to taunt us one too many times...
I say we stock up on some cheese to give them after they start whining when we send a few of these “patrol boats” to allah...
” No telling when the Canadians will need to be dealt with again. “
Hey, every winter. I live in Florida! LOL
I think Typhoon can handle herself.
Armament:
2 25mm Mk-38 machine guns
2 .50 cal machine guns
2 Mk-19 automatic grenade launchers
6 stinger missiles
for whatever reason, the iranians see the cyclone class as the easy target. 200 yards for crying out loud!
this stuff is training for simulated launches and attacks, which makes me think they are working on a pre-emptive strike. Oh, I just hope so. But we had better we watching every single move they make.
#28 beat you with the phrase.
HOZE-EM!!!
We don’t have enough Frigates so there is more work for PCs Peace dividend ya know.
I saw the pictures of the convoys allegedly with the WMD on board posted on Debka File the week it happened. They were pulled within two days.
If you really want to draw attention to this, get Debka to repost and stand by them.
Looks like you don’t know what you are talking about.
Even though I corrected myself a couple minutes after that post, it was very helpful for you to come along a few days later and note my error.
“Looks like the SS Minnow could take it in a fight.”
Not armed with (2) 25mms, (2) Cal. .50’s and (2) Mk 19’s and a SEAL Platoon.
Why waste an expensive missile when the ship could throttle up and aim at the Iranian boat? I bet our guys win, and if there are any Iranian survivors, they could repaint our bow.
Just got done watching Ben Hur did ya?
