Report: Jimmy Carter to Meet With Hamas Leader in Syria

NEW YORK CITY — Former President Jimmy Carter is reportedly preparing an unprecedented meeting with the leader of Hamas, an organization that the U.S. government considers one of the leading terrorist threats in the world.

The Arabic-language newspaper Al-Hayat reported Tuesday that Carter was planning a trip to Syria for mid-April, during which he would meet with Khaled Meshal, the exiled head of the Palestinian terror group Hamas, on April 18.

Deanna Congileo, Carter’s press secretary, confirmed in an e-mail to FOXNews.com that Carter will be in the Mideast in April. Pressed for comment, Congileo did not deny that the former president is considering visiting Meshal.

“President Carter is planning a trip to the Mideast next week; however, we are still confirming details of the trip and will issue a press release by the end of this week,” wrote Congileo. “I cannot confirm any specific meetings at this point in time.”

I’m a born again Christian, I just can’t imagine a fellow Christian doing something like this.

Don’t we still have “Sedition” and “Treason” as crimes listed in the Constitution that we can still charge people with even if they are a former President?

Treason yes, sedition no, never did have sedition listed in the Constitution. In fact, IIRC, the first attempt at making it a crime, The Alien and Sedition Act, and other early attempts to make sedition a crime, were held by Thomas Jefferson to be unconstitutional and void, he then pardoned and ordered the release of all who had been convicted of violating them.

However the 1798 "Alien Enemies Act" is still in effect, as 50 U.S.C. § 21-24.but only applies during a declared war. That's the first really good reason I've seen to declare war on the Jihadies, except that the language of the law probably does not apply to non national groups like Al Qaeda and other terrorist groups, rather than citizens of foreign countries who the US is at war with.

The best possible outcome from this meeting would be that Hamas keeps the peanut farmer as a pet.

Except that we would be begging for them NOT to release him.

I'd contribute to a fund to PAY THEM to keep him.

Carter is not a fool, no doubt he will be paid in excess of a cool million dollars through front organizations to one of Carter’s family controlled charities

Of course he's a fool. A smart fool, but a fool nonetheless.

LOL...I just saw an old movie again..”Ruthless People” with Danny DeVitto and Bette Midler. Your comment made me think of how once Bette was kiddnapped, the kidnappers kept having to lower the amount of ransom money because DeVitto did not want her back.

Since this guy is an ex-President, he’s entitled to Secret Service protection, right? So, as taxpayers, we’re funding his junkets and the security entourage to undermine the United States?

Travesty!

Of course, if the Syrians provoked Israel, you know who would get the blame for retaliation.

“It would be poetic justice if the scumbag Carter was kidnapped and held hostage for 444 days.”

“Except that we would be begging for them NOT to release him.”

Yeah, P-L-E-A-S-E!... keep him!...P-L-E-A-S-E!

ROTFL!!

“Well it’s no surprise the worst president of all time has managed to become the worst ex-president of all time.”

Yeah, maybe he took a look at Hillary and Obama and saw the possibility of his title slipping away!

Nah!... he’s going to hold the record for a long time to come!

Very good. I couldn't think of the name of that O'Henry story. I kept thinking it was The Kidnapping of Red Cheif.

Jimmy Carter is an egomaniac. The only thing this trip will accomplish is that it will get Carter on TV again. And that, ultimately, is what he really craves: attention.
