A group of concerned citizens has been raising alarms about the Islamic elements planned for the Flight 93 Memorial near Shanksville, Pa., for years. And a member of Congress has demanded the National Park Service make changes in its plans.
But there's been no substantive response, and now the activists say it's time for the American people to let officials know whether they want to pay for and have installed in the memorial a crescent that points to Mecca to make up a "mihrab," the foundational point for every Islamic mosque, a tower that has been designed like an Islamic sundial and 44 memorial glass blocks, one each for the passengers, crew and terrorists aboard Flight 93.
The new petition is being promoted both online and on paper, and it tells the government simply to investigate the design of the memorial, which is to honor the passengers and crew members of Flight 93 on Sept. 11, 2001.

Is this true? It's my understanding that the original design was either nixed or heavily modified after getting hit with criticism of this sort. As a citizen who has donated funds for the building of the Flight 93 Memorial, I would be appalled and disturbed if the "crescent of embrace" were still the planned memorial.
That it even entered the heads of the developers of this memorial to use Islamic symbols at all shows just how nuts this country has become.
There is a 9/11 Memorial in Phoenix which has caused an uproar since it was unveiled because of all the left wing propaganda that it included.
People are trying to get some of the offensive inscriptions removed but Governor Dieseldyke Napolitano, the poor man's hillary clinton, is running interference.
Standby then....the design has NOT been modified to remove any of the ojectionable features.

Memorial blocks for the /terrorists?/
It is astounding that this continues to go on.
If you remember, they tried to subvert and marginalize the meaning of the memorial in New York as well. Is it the fault of the person they hire to design-—or is this the fault of the government agency in charge? Regardless, it is inexcusable-—in both cases.

I agree with the inappropriateness of this, but...just on a tangent...the crescent moon is not solely a Muslim symbol. Is it not, for example, an element traditionally associated with the State of South Carolina?

What is wrong with you Americans? Commemorating the terrorists aboard Flight 93? Is that a serious proposition???
Whose stupid idea was that? And what’s with all this Muslim Crap on the memorial site? Is this proposition merely oblivious, or are they trying to be deliberately offensive?
Somebody needs to be fired in public and with humiliation. Maybe a few people, the more senior the better.

Flight 93 was the first blow struck in the War on Terror against this Enemy. Including this Muslim Crap is exactly analogous to including swastikas on WW-II memorials just because Nazis died, too.

I’m a foreigner and I can see it. A Kiwi died on Flight 93 and I think it is in the worst possible taste to memorialize his assassins in this fashion. I would be stunned if Americans did not feel likewise about the Americans who died on Flight 93.
I think it is a deliberate attempt to demoralize Americans who have not bowed down to political correctness and who think that Islam has a lot explaining to do rather than we have to apologize to the Islamists for merely existing. The leftist nihilists and the Islamist fanatics have joined forces to make people demoralized and intimidated. This would be like having a swastika as the main feature at a Holocaust memorial or having a burning cross at a memorial to the people killed in the civil rights struggle. The Islamists are saying, “We can kill you at our leisure, piss on your graves, and our allies at every level of your government will rush to help us! So die, dhimmie fools!” Do you remember that there was a piece of rubble that resembled a cross at the World Trade Center ruins and this became an informal memorial? Our criminal, traitor class went berzerk in demanding that the cross be removed. Now the same people want to memorialize the terrorists and mock the victims. I think they especially want to desecrate the Flight 93 site because the “dhimmies” fought back.
I think it goes beyond even someone trying to be offensive. This is part of the propaganda war against the West. America did a pretty good job of suppressing Nazi sympathizers during WWII. Enemy propaganda and even defeatist talk was not allowed. We sure as hell did not invite Nazi leaders over to speak at our universities or design our memorials! This would have been like inviting Nazis to the Arlington Cemetery where many of our patriots are buried and allowing them to replace the crosses at the graves with swastikas! Anyone who had the audacity to suggest such a crazy idea would have been arrested and sent to prison for being an agent of the enemy. Now we not only tolerate enemy propaganda, we celebrate the enemy and mock our fallen heroes! This is worse than naive appeasement. There is more to it than that.

I thought all of this had been squashed and a new design had been approved by the families. We have a FReeper whos father perished aboard that flight and forgive me I cannot remember his name. Anybody?
