TOKYO, Japan (CNN) -- At first glance, the man and woman at the nightclub look like any other couple on a date. He flirts and pours champagne. She looks at him and laughs.

Businesswomen in Japan pay up to $50,000 a night for male companionship from "hosts" like Yunosuke.

This isn't a date, though. It's business.

The woman, a successful executive, has joined a growing number of professional women in Japan in forking out from $1,000 to $50,000 a night for male companionship.

They meet their "hosts" in hundreds of clubs that have sprung up around Tokyo - the industry says only compliments are exchanged. The women pay for a man to lavish them with undivided attention.

Today’s Japanese would have never bombed Pearl harbor. They would have attacked from the rear!
Trust me, they get more female action in two weeks than most FReepers have had in their life. With better girls. One of the biggest clientele for a host place is off duty hostesses.

That's my point, what would a real man draw from those lonely rich women. I'm thinking a gaijin with larger features would be a hot commodity.

I’ll try not to think about that as I contemplate lunch.

The best anime - the characters are mostly androgonous. I’m thinking Howl in Howl’s Moving Castle for example.

Not really. Japanese girls can pick those up(for free) at the Gaijin bars in Roppongi. I've known foreign hosts, but they all spoke very good Japanese and had to pick their nosehair and stuff. Trust me, you guys would quit in a day.

Way too femme, but some women are into that sort of thing. If I want male arm candy, I would pick Actor: Gerald Butler/Movie: 300, very manly and handsome, Athlete: David Beckham - very, very nice - ripped abs, Intellectual: Christopher Hitchens and All Around Male: Vice President - Dick Cheney./Just Asking - seoul62......

I can't figure out if you are jealous or bragging. LOL

At any rate, I suspect that kind of life becomes quite empty very quickly.

Uh, no, I'm afraid not. Some of my Japanese girlfriends have confessed that Japanese women consider American men to be too large, coarse, hairy, and strong-smelling. Too masculine, in other words. They are used to men who are smaller and don't have much body hair.

However, we American women appreciate you very much, cowboy! You stay right here where you belong. ;-)

Both :p

I'm sure it does. Then again, so does being rich.

I'm not one to envy the AMOG(alpha male of the group).

Um...no. I can say without hesitation or qualification that I would not want to be a prostitute, even if it netted me $300K over two years. That money can be frittered away, but the fact that you were a whore is forever.

Because I've seen it in action? I've been drug by (paying) Japanese friends to countless hostess and host bars. Cheapo depot with ugly hosts/hostess will cost you $30+ an hour. Good is over $100 an hour.

Folks, I hate to break it to you, but the photo is of the Japanese businesswoman who hires a male geisha. It’s not a photo of a male, but of his client. Not. Male. Geisha.

Trust me, I know plenty of man-whores that hang out in bars. They just don't get paid for it and tend to get creepy crawlies in their nethers. Then they think they're cool for "scoring".

A host is a completely different gig. Usually a host makes the most money by *not* putting out. That's how you get the client to come back, the expectation of something more.

Wrong. Read the caption from the source page—the photo is of the male geisha.

Why do you assume there is sex involved? These women may just want companionship, with a large dose of psychological 'stroking'. Besides, true geisha are not prostitutes; they are, or were, classic entertainers who mastered the arts of conversation, music and dance, so that they could entertain a wide variety of men.
