John, PLEASE put the Ping functionality BACK like it was last night — every change now just makes things worse. The only thing GREEN is some old stuff — my posts, others — all jumbled up. Every Ping is indented from the one before until it ALL runs OFF the PAGE and is IMPOSSIBLE to view! If you really have to experiment like this, PLEASE DO IT OFF LINE. Also, please try anything NEW out with ALL possible browsers (old and new) BEFORE you turn it over to the rest of us. PLEASE??
In the meantime, I am ignoring ALL pings.
Heck, put it back the way it was before the big change. Don’t like the new way version 2.0, 3.0, et al at all.
New info from John at the following thread........

Thank you so much for the Newbie Help link(s). That’s fantastic. I really appreciate the help.
What operating system and browser are you using? The most common answer to that question is "Windows XP" and "Internet Explorer" (IE), but that might not be your situation.
If that is the case, then there may not be much more I can do to help. Lockups with Windows and IE are a common symptom, and very difficult if not impossible to diagnose in many cases. Certainly I am not one of the rare experts who can diagnose such. I'd be suggesting an alternative web browser, such as Firefox or Opera, if that was your situation.
Hm, sounds like a broken tag somewhere along the way. I’ll check it out. (It works on everything I’ve tested it on, but you have to understand I can’t test the dozens of different versions of browsers available. I go for the popular ones, except for the Mac ones— don’t have a Mac.)
>sounds like a broken tag somewhere along the way.
Probably 2 broken ones. The indenting starts from the very top of the list (and doesn’t stop) and the green font starts at the first post that’s mine (and doesn’t stop). The biggest problem with the “green” is that it obliterates the distinction between pings I’ve read and those I haven’t.
It ALSO appears that once I respond to a THREAD, ALL pings to that thread turn violet. I can no longer tell which pings I’ve checked out and which ones I haven’t.
Thanks; I like to help out folks and make their FR browsing easier.
Looking forward to Allegra’s return in a few weeks?? Party time?? LOL!
I have taken the suggestion to reestablish the beta site and confine most of the radical changes over there. I, however, will continue to employ an aggressive deployment schedule. Just hopefully with more stability and better usability trials.
>Does this look better?
Yes. That corrected the issue with the indenting and the green everywhere. THANKS! However, all the pings to a thread page turn violet when only one ping to that thread page has been clicked. It is POSSIBLE that all pings to ALL pages in the thread turn as well. I can’t be sure about that. What this means is that once I respond to ONE of the pings, I can’t tell which ones I have seen and which ones I haven’t.
BTW, a beta test site seems like a great way to check these things out.

I’ll see what I can do.
Excellent, MEG. It’s all in the timing; I spared myself from seeing a blank html screen...:)
John, the new color scheme is cool.
I wasn’t aware, until a thread yesterday, about the “auto clear” flag - that was my biggest buggaboo with the new page.
In summary, I like the new ping page.
As Jet Jaguar pointed out, Breitbart hasn’t been showing linked FR articles for a month or more now. You might want to get right with them, as I suspect it’s a significant source of traffic for FR.
Thanks for all your hard work, John.
Thanks for all of the updates as well as the heads-ups. Have you seen any of the Greasemonkey Firefox plug-ins some freepers created to make surfing FR easier? I just discovered them last week and love them.
Thank you - it is very important to me that she is honored, even in this simple way. She was an incredible person.
Puzzlement:
I can look up things in recent times in 2008 (approcimately the last two months)..
But when I click on “More”
I suddently receive posts from 2004.
I would like to get back to February of 2008. Having trouble.
Is there a solution?
I’m on a Mac, operating system OSX, and the time/date on all FR posts is December 13, 1901, 3:45 PM EST. Also, “New Posts To You” remains red, even after any new posts have been viewed and/or replied to.
Hmmmmmmm.......I wonder if that plan includes fixing the search by sender? That would be nice. (John did say it is on the list, but not a high priority.)
You know, one of the things I would love to do is to have all of my FR mail burned onto a dvd. Then I could delete it from my mailbox. It would result in clearing ten years worth of my mail out of the FR database, and that would be a good thing. I would be willing to pay a good price for this if John or Jim would do it for me.....hint, hint. ;-)
I am actually afraid that I am going to lose it and some of it is important mail that I'd like to keep. The problem is, at this point there is way too much mail for me to go through and manually save, and I can't even find the important mail because it is buried years back. I should have been saving it as I went along.....live and learn.
