Saudi prince gives Cambridge University £8m for Islamic studies centre
London Telegraph ^ | April 6, 2008 | Julie Henry, Education Correspondent

Cambridge University has been given £8 million by a Saudi Arabian prince to establish an Islamic studies centre.

Prince Alwaleed Bin Talal, ranked in the top 20 richest men in the world, with a fortune of about £10 billion, has donated the cash to the university to fund a centre in his name for the study of the role of Islam in the Middle East and globally.

The gift has been recommended by the university's general board and is expected to be announced in June. advertisement

The grandson of King Ibn Saud and nephew of King Abudllah, the prince counts the Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall among his friends.

With a huge portfolio generating massive returns – he calls his investments his "hundred wives" – the 50-year-old is the biggest single shareholder in Citigroup, the world's biggest bank.

In 2005 he bought the Savoy Hotel in London for about £220 million. Last year, he became the first person to buy an Airbus A380 superjumbo to use as a private jet, dubbed the "flying palace".

Prince Alwaleed Bin Talal hit the headlines in 2001 when his offer of cash for the victims of the September 11 attacks in New York was turned down after he criticised American foreign policy. New York's then mayor, Rudolph Giuliani, rejected a £6.6 million donation when the businessman issued a statement that America had to adopt a "more balanced stance" on Palestine. The row belies the prince's influence in America, however.

Isn’t it great when the West cooperates in its own destruction?

I wonder if that study would include the adverse effects of Islam in the Middle East and globally.

Kingdom Foundation, his Riyadh-based charity, has earmarked £100 million for projects aimed at improving understanding between the West and the Islamic world.

In other words the Prince is creating a Ministry of Propaganda for Islam.

Conversion by economic grip. I’m sure the board members of Cambridge were all handsomely bought off. Britain’s leaders both civic and corporate remind me of the “Free Money” scene in the Peter Sellers movie, “The Magic Christian”

Too bad Cambridge didn’t do a Guiliani to that Prince. The check would have made good confetti, but ala, they don’t have the courage to stand up.

Um... we are starting Judeo-Christian studies/democracy departments there as well... right?

Yeah, right.

Nothing’s keeping us from naming Geert Wilders the director of said program... Maybe Spencer and Pipes could get the next posts. Oh... and Wufa, Gabrielle, Hirsi Ali, etc.

And they wonder why idiots that graduate from schools hate their country.

What Can’t they understand about incompatible?

Indeed.

I can already hear the Mohammed PA system with some wacko shouting in Arabic about their "prayers."

Bye, bye United Kingdom. You obviously learned nothing from history, because this Islam stuff sure as heck ain't religious. It's pure evil.

Why are Islamic studies centers allowed, considering all the hatred and racism it preaches, and Christian Study centers not allowed at all?

Seems our governemnt is perposely forcing Islam on us, preparing us for the submission to Islam the UN secretary general Banu or what ever his name is says we should all comply with.

Honestly the use of these funds will depend upon whether or not there are strings attached.

If the center can be used to train the next generation for Scotland Yard too, why not?

Ideally it can be used in an manner that brings more elightened students from the ME to Cambridge to help them learn, understand and then communicate to their brethren how they can better to learn to live with us.

Naturally that is highly unlikely to happen, but hey, why not start with the benefit of the doubt.

Sad, Cambridge, along with Oxford is the heart of England’s intellectual community. It’s sad to see it go.

TAKE THEIR MONEY AND OPEN UP A CHRISTIAN ACADEMY! Saudis should find their own religious laws follow them wherever they travel. No koranus, no mosques, no prayer rugs and off with your head if you try it!

Alwaleed bin Talal bin Abdul Aziz Al Saud (Prince, Saudi Arabia)

I remember this twitchy little fellow from the news one month after 9/11 when Giuliani rejected his $10 million gift after Alweasel "suggested U.S. policies in the Middle East contributed to the September 11 attacks." Cheers to Rudy.

From the link: " A renowned philanthropist, the prince has made two donations of £10 million to establish Islamic studies centres at Harvard University, in Cambridge, Massachusetts, and Georgetown, in Washington. He also gave £10 million to fund an Islamic art wing at the Louvre Museum in Paris."

The MSM media refers to George Soros as a philanthropist as well. The meaning of the term seems to be evolving to incude:
Philanthropy: the undermining of Western civilization.

Liberal academia does not surprise that they would whore their curricula for money. Harvard, Georgetown, Cambridge are "useful idiots of Islam"
