AAH CALLS ON LANSING MAYOR TO RESCIND AWARD GIVEN TO CAIR-MICHIGAN LEADER
CAIRS DAWUD WALID TOLD MUSLIMS ITS OKAY TO DISOBEY THE LAW AND TO DONATE TO TERROR-RELATED CHARITIES
(Coral Springs, FL) Americans Against Hate (AAH) is calling on the Mayor of Lansing, Michigan, Virg Bernero, to rescind a special recognition award he had given to the Executive Director of CAIR-Michigan, Dawud Walid. The award was presented to Walid, on September 27, 2007. A photo of Walid holding the award, while posing with Mayor Bernero, is currently found on every page of Walids blog.
Shortly before the award was given, in July of 2007, Walid had told his website viewers that it was okay to donate money to Islamic charities connected to terrorism that had been raided by the FBI. The charities included Al-Mabarrat, which is tied to the spiritual leader of Hezbollah, Sayyid Muhammad Hussein Fadlallah, and Life for Relief and Development (LIFE), which has been a partner to various groups connected to Hamas and Al-Qaeda.
Walid stated, Al Mabarrat is still open for business like LIFE. [sic] Unfortantely, these charities may continue to have suspicion cast over them, and may never get their days in court to clear their names from suspicion. I repeat that it is still LEGAL to donate to Al-Mabarrat as well as LIFE.
In addition, Walid, during a June 2007 speech he had made at the American Moslem Society (a.k.a. Masjid Dearborn), told the mosques congregants that it was okay to disobey the law. He stated, We should obey the laws of the United States of America, except when those laws bar us from those things that are obligations [of] our religion.
Furthermore, the award was given to Walid, while a federal terror trial was taking place which named CAIR as a co-conspirator to the financing of millions of dollars to Hamas.
In an e-mail sent to Mayor Bernero, dated March 17, 2008, AAH Chairman Joe Kaufman wrote, [W]e ask that you move to rescind Walid's award immediately. Previously, our organization had asked Senator Barbara Boxer to do the same, when her office had granted an award to the Executive Director of CAIR-Sacramento, Basim Elkarra. Senator Boxer rescinded the award and spoke out against CAIR, and we praised her for this. We hope that you do the same, as we're sure you would never want to be seen as being a supporter of a group with ties to terrorism.
Mayor Bernero has not responded to the e-mail.

What is it about Michigan mayors and their abject stupidity and corruption?
The entire culture in my old home state has been totally corrupted by socialism and PC ignorance.
I was born and raised there and wanted to someday return in retirement but with the current political and tax structure I will not live there again. I will just visit there now and then to see my family members that have chosen to stay and tough it out.
Thank you for the info.
Like you, I was born in MI. It breaks my heart to see what has become of the once industrial leader of the world.
MI is illustrative of what would happen to the rest of the US if it fell under democrat party control.
Race, thanks for the link. Though now a fellow Nutmegger (ya-hoo) I hail from the Great Lake State, and sent a very respectful email using the link in post 2 to “hizonner.” My position was that Michigan needs no further reason for ridicule, and that whilst I appreciate the weight borne by those in public service, this kind of endorsement of an avowed anti-Semite and and supporter of terrorism against America, by the mayor of our captial city, can only lead to our state being held in greater disrepute than the current economic situation already merits. Or words to that effect.
I still live in Mi. and I hang my head in shame. Too connected to move and wife has good job in corrections.
The Pols have ruined a once great state and they don’t have a clue on how to fix it. The Govs. solution for everything is to raise taxes. She is a Dem.(read Dim.) socialist from Canada.
Thank you for the link, I sent him a scathing but civil piece of my mind.
Ping
Stop re-electing socalist Canadian and Democraps and you might get a clue!
I thank you dear Father in Heaven for giving me the common sense and courage to move from that stinkin state to Texas!
If you would like to be added or dropped from the Michigan ping list, please freepmail me.
This bozo is my mayor ping
As if any Michigan freeper had anything to do with electing Molehern, Levin, Stabusall, or any of the other socialist idjits running our state into the ground. Sheesh!
Have you sent a message to hizzoner yet?
Just last night I heard a local here in Novi say he wanted to retire here as well, but won't - because of the weather. :) This winter here was one of the worst winters of my life - and I lived in Colorado for almost 20 years.
I’m hoping to do one better than just an email—the class I usually teach on Monday nights isn’t meeting tomorrow so I’m planning on making an ass of myself at the City Council meeting. I haven’t done that in nearly a year. I’m not sure if Bernero will be there—sometimes he is, mostly not.
You’re right, this was a particularly brutal winter—and don’t put the shovel away just yet. It’s only April, after all!
Oh, that would be fun. I would offer to join you, but I will be at work at that time.
