More than 80 percent of Americans believe the country is headed in the wrong direction, the highest such number since the early 1990s, according to a new survey. The CBS News-New York Times poll released Thursday showed 81 percent of respondents said they believed "things have pretty seriously gotten off on the wrong track." That was up from 69 percent a year ago, and 35 percent in early 2002.

I agree. The country is heading in the wrong direction...especially since January 2007, when the Democrats took over Congress.
Yes, but what the poll does not reveal is the DIFFERENCE in where the people think the country ought to be headed.
About half of that 80% want us to submit to socialistic dhimmitude and the other half want to FIGHT socialistic dhimmitude.
CBS/NYT. Of course the results will be bad. They want us wringing our hands for CHANGE.
I want climate change.
typical meaningless media pap
“wrong” - hey - wasn’t that John Kerry’s favorite word? Loser.
The same 80% that’s busy watching American Idol,ABCNBCCBS, and Oprah?
They only know what they’ve been told.
I like being on the wrong track. That means these are the good old days, so you better be having fun. :-)
over 50% said the government shouldn’t bail out banks even if it prolonged the economic downturn, which is good. Not so good is that they also wanted individual homeowner bailouts instead. Socialist sentiment is abroad in the land, and it will be hard to combat. We can be thankful the Dems have two abomnably awful candidates, or it would be a landslide for them this year.
A survey like this should be very helpful later on. The GOP SHOULD use this stuff for a before the ratHOUSE and after the ratHOUSE side by side. We know that right now they won’t do it. It’s up to us to make these comparisons on these pages as often as we can, Maybe, just maybe, the GOP will use the stuff we come up with if we say it over and over,
Areas of comparison for before and after are: the price of gas, the level of confidence, the EMployment level, the war stats. We must find this data and post it again and again. Only we can save this country.
Maybe JimRob will keep it on the opening page.
And I’m sure the poll question wasn’t worded to garner a negative response.

“I want climate change.”
Yeah, I am pulling for another ice age. I believe during the last one, there were glaciers covering most of the northern tier of the U.S. I know, that was not nice was it? My bad...
The poll means whatever one chooses it to mean, a perfect non story.
Okay, so the media keeps printing stories about how bad things are and then they run a poll to find out what people think?
Polls like this indicate how well the media did with their propaganda than it does for knowing what people really think, IMHO.
It's 1992 all over again?
After months of economic doom-and-gloom in the newspapers and on the evening TV newscasts, each featuring daily tales of we've-all-been-laid-off woes, overnight the emphasis shifted to economic prosperity the day after election day 1992.
How could such a turn around happen overnight MSM employees asked with only a hint of disingenuousness.
I swear this is true. A Clinton spokesman explained to appreciative and approving MSM employees, "It's because the people now feel confident with Bill Clinton as president-elect."
A not-so-funny thing about it -- the figures were always there that proved that the economy was doing pretty well. Gee, the MSM employees must have missed them.
These polls are worthless since they don’t tell you why we are headed in the wrong direction.
Actually, they are right. America is on the wrong track right now. It’s on the Obama is our next President track. Just look at all the money Obama is raising. They are clamoring for change. Be careful what you wish for....
