On March 26, 2008, surgeons at UC San Diego Medical Center removed an inflamed appendix through a patient's vagina, a first in the United States. Following the 50-minute procedure, the patient, Diana Schlamadinger, reported only minor discomfort.     Heads Up Democrats


    Giving credit where credit is due, the democrats have been doing research in this area for decades.

    They have perfected the art of putting things in orifices, but still haven't conquered the act of getting things out of them.

    I say we acknowledge their work to this point and encourage them to keep at it.  Who knows, within a decade or two they may actually make some headway on the extraction dilemma.

I really question this article. Back in the 80s, I had a vaginal hysterectomy, under epidural anesthesia (that anesthesia, vs general, at my request) and since it had to be done, I requested that my surgeon also remove my appendix at the same time. This he did, so I will never have to have any concern about appendicitis.

You never know where you’ll travel, or what you’ll be doing, and appendicitis could really mess up a vacation or trip overseas. A camping trip in the wilderness could become life-threatening, too.

If you’re going to have abdominal surgery, it’s a good idea to snip the appendix as well, in my opinion, if you can get your doctor to agree.
