It was the Russian mafia.

It’s always seemed a bit strange to me that an expert skier would slam into a tree hard enough to kill him instantly.

I doubt it.
I would look for a trail back to this guy, Gunderson’s, publiscist.

Wasn’t that the year that one of the Kennedy’s also died of a skiing accident? If so, is there a link?

And it seems unlikely than a non-expert skier would be going fast enough.

Ha! Have you ever been on a ski slope? A couple of mafia thugs would stand out like a sore thumb. How would they know where he was going to be on a slope with dozens if not hundreds of other skiers?
Someone’s watched too many bad James bond flicks.

Actually, this story is true, except for one important point: the hitmen had nothing to do with drugs or guns. They were hired by a group of people still suffering the after effects of being forced to watch the Sonny and Cher show as children, which caused them untold emotional scars and completely destroyed their ability to enjoy music. Ladies and Gentlemen, this was a revenge killing.

I think it was Cher’s plastic surgeon. He wanted to get rid of everyone who remembers what she actually looked like.

The resort is about 55 miles (88 km) southwest of Reno, Nevada, on the California-Nevada state line. A ski patrol searched the Nevada side of the mountain and found the body some two hours later...

I actually thought Bono had a good shot at being President. He was a great Congressman.

I have skied often and never heard of, or saw anyone hit a tree hard enough to kill them. Always thought there were a lot of questions left unanswered when Bono supposedly crashed into a tree, given that he was an experienced skier and probably knew the slope well. That said, I also wondered why his ex-wife, Cher, and his current wife at the time never questioned the mysterious death and asked for an autopsy . Maybe they knew (or were warned) to "keep quiet?" Things that happen in Las Vegas Nevada...stay in Nevada, I guess.
