Tonight was our sixth show! We plan on having them every three months, and if it works out, move that up to every other month. ALSO NOTE, IF SOMEONE HAS CONNECTIONS AT BETHESDA NAVAL HOSPITAL, WE WOULD LIKE TO DO SHOWS THERE ON THE ALTERNATE MONTH.
We had a good size crowd this night, including a FReeper. Our band never showed, but we went on without them. Not sure what happened to "Destroy All Zeros", a touring rock band. I guess they were tied up destroying some free roaming zeros. They missed one as their appearance at WRAMC turned up a zero.
Having said that, they were the ones who missed out! Paul Singh brought Indian humor, as he put it, not casino Indian, but 7/11 Indian. The crowd was not sure at first who this guy was, but after his first joke and their first laugh, he was warmly accepted.
Ron Bender, who was making his third appearance at WR, brought laughter in a way that can only be described as, "I shouldn't be laughing at this, but I can't help it". He is a crowd favorite whenever he comes to the Mologne House.
Then, with the crowd prepped, Mike Diesel rocked the mic and would have had some of the crowd falling out of their chairs were they not strapped in. Mike was blessed by the crowd. He recently lost his father-in-law, and was not sure whether he would make it. His wife encouraged him as she felt it would be therapeutic for him, and to make sure he did it, she came along for the ride.
After the comedians, we held a "Best Joke I Ever Heard" contest for the audience members. We had four contestants, all with incredible jokes. One winner got a great prize. Then, from the goodness of his heart, Mike announced that all military people who were there that night would get in at his comedy club for $5 rather than the normal $15. He would have done it for free, except the Best Western had not approved him cutting into their share of the door charge. His room is "Wise Acres Comedy Club" - http://www.wiseacrescomedyclub.com/. It is located in the: Best Western Tysons Westpark Hotel 8401 Westpark Drive, McLean, Virginia (between Tyson's Corner Center and the Dulles Toll Road) Pub open Mon - Sat: 5:00pm - 10:00pm
I wish to acknowledge the charity, America's Wounded Heroes, whose VP, Mike Sparling, was instrumental in connecting me with the decision makers at the Mologne House.
Tonight's show was recorded and broadcast through my new sound system, 2-150 powered speakers, a 16-channel sound board, and recorded on my laptop. If I get the permission of the performers, I should have a CD available in a month.
Our performers:
Me, Mike Diesel, Paul Singh, and Ron Bender.
Please take a moment to visit each performer's web site and let them know how much you appreciate them, and go see them when they come to a venue near you.
Yes, for all you libertarians on FR, Ron is wearing a shirt with a Cannabis sativa leaf on his shirt.
Thanks for posting, Sensei.
God bless all you guys for your support of our wounded warriors!!
Sounds of Laughter at WRAMC Ping
It truly is a blessing to meet these fine men and women. They are the ones who give me hope in the next generation.
Thanks for all you do Ern!! I know how much everyone at WR appreciates it!!
DC Chapter pingaucity!
I need to re-iterate, were it not for the DC Chapter standing vigil outside every Friday, I would not have gotten the chance to do the show.
Gotta luv the camie cast!!!
You didn't tell me Mike was going to be there. :o(
God Bless Mike and Mrs Mike, we miss Bob very much...
Ernie, I admire that you wear a suit and tie for your shows.
Thank goodness casual Fridays hasn’t killed off good taste...
I thought I had mentioned that when I invited you. I also wasn’t sure whether he would be there with the recent issues.
Ern
I am casual when I do open mics. No need dirtying good clothes for a room full of comedians who won’t appreciate your set, and are just waiting for their moment on stage. When I run a show, or do a pro show, I wear a suit.
Oooooh Haaaah!
Good job all. Thanks.
The way we'd distinguish is "Dot, not feather"...
The sound is incredible!
I remember that when I work the casinos. ;-)
Thank you for all you do for these troops!
Wish I could come to one of these shows.
Thank you for setting this up, Ern. You are doing a very good thing
