Harold Ickes Confirms That Wright Is Key Topic In Discussions With Super-Delegates
TPM ^ | April 1, 2008 | Greg Sargent

In an interview with me this morning, senior Hillary adviser Harold Ickes confirmed that Reverend Jeremiah Wright is a key topic in discussions with uncommitted super-delegates over whether Obama is electable in a general election.

The comments from Ickes, who is Hillary's chief delegate hunter, are to my knowledge the first on-the-record confirmation from a Hillary adviser that the Wright controversy is a subject in conversations between the Hillary campaign and the super-delegates her advisers are trying to win over to Hillary's side.

In the wide-ranging interview, Ickes also:

* Said that it was possible that Hillary forces on the convention credentials committee could bring a so-called "minority report" to a full convention vote, though he also said that this is something Hillary doesn't want to happen

* Confirmed that the Hillary campaign could still try to woo super-dels even if she lost the popular vote, with Michigan and Florida counted

* Said that there was no risk of Hillary's efforts "tearing the party apart," described the current campaign as "genteel," and dismissed those worrying about the damage the campaign could do to the party as "hand-wringers"

"Look what the Republicans did to a genuine war hero," Ickes said, in a reference to John Kerry.

When I asked Ickes if the Hillary campaign would still try to woo super-dels even if she was behind in the popular vote counting Florida and Michigan, he said: "I think being ahead in the popular vote is an important factor. I don't think it's dispositive..."

Good point. If one has no respect or beliefs in character, truth, values, responsibility or accountability, this is the end result.

Last Sunday I watched the webcast services (morning & evening) of the (infamous) Trinity United Church of Christ of Chicago, Illinois. If I were a Dem Superdelegate worried about electability, I'd be MUCH more concerned about this...

No, look what Kerry did to disgrace himself and slander his fellow Vietnam Vets on his return home. Ickes, did you and your fellow Dims think we wouldn't remember???

This is because having zero values means advertising, polling and focus groups actually run things for Democrats Heck, Bill Clinton did not sign the welfare bill until the polling showed him the way.

Well, despite the MSM flying cover for Obama right now, there is a teeny weeny chance the subject of Wright and wrong just might come up in the general. :-))

That Ickes blood is, well, icky! The son is at least as bad as his Commie Dad... I am afraid that you would be in a very long line of people that would like to kick his butt licking butt. My dad referred to these people as “of the same ilk”. They are called democrats. “I is regusted”!

This is Hillary's plan to take the nomination from Obama. The super delegates were created to prevent another McGovern from getting the nomination. Obama is even worse than McGovern, and Ickes is reminding the super delegates about their "responsibility."

The Obama people didn't take the super delegates into account in their campaign plan. I still think Hillary will get the nomination, because she only cares about her power and not the good of the party.

And Denver is going to be a disaster for them.

Pity.

Actually, I’m looking forward to the show. Recreate ‘68 rioting in the streets and Hillary’s Michigan and Florida delegates rioting inside. It don’t get no better than that.

...so, too, if she lost both arms & legs to sniper fire & shrapnel from various foreign travel experiences...

But will they come when she doth woo?

Interesting how only ONCE in the past 20 years have the Demagogues considered it important to run a “genuine war hero” (an honorific that Jon Cary certainly undermined by his behavior). Yet, against REAL “genuine war heros” George Bush, Sr., Bob Dole, and John McCain the Demagogues run puling drooling squirrely little weasels and suddenly think it is no longer important that the winning candidate be a genuine war hero. The vicious shameless Demagogues are always spewing out of their a##es, whatever they may say is their flavor of the month.

[snip] Harold Ickes, a 40-year party operative charged with winning over superdelegates for the Clinton campaign, made no apologies on Saturday for the campaign’s convention strategy. “We’re going to win this nomination,” Ickes said, adding that they would do so soon after the last contest on June 7 in Puerto Rico. “You’re not going to see this go to the convention floor.” [end]

[caution: it’s an old MiaT topic]

“If you look at white women, and I think that was the key to this election, Kerry won 45% based on the exit polls—but they’re generally in agreement—Kerry won 45%, Bush won 55% of white women. By contrast, Bush won only 45% of white women in 2000, so he upped is percentages by 10 points. In 1996, bill clinton won 48% of white women compared to Bob Dole’s 43%. That is a huge, huge difference. I don’t think you can lay all that at the doorstep of moral values. I think that this president unabashedly and abjectly took the issue of terror and used it to terrorize... white women.”
