I have now said live on television here in North Carolina, much the same thing that you, Rome, just posted. "These are not the three best candidates that a nation of 300 million people can put forward for President." I said that during an interview for my own race for Congress, in the 11th Dist. of NC.

If the politics in the White House don't (can't with this list of possibilities) get any better, and the Republicans cannot take back the Senate (unlikely, too many seats to defend), then the House of Representatives will be the last ditch defense for sanity in the whole federal government.

That's a large reason I am running for one of the seats the Repubs never should have lost, and must retake, if there is any serious chance of retaking the majority in the House.

Because McCain, so we were told, had no chance. His campaign was broke, imploding, etc etc etc. He was lagging behind badly. Then it was as if the party told all of them to narrow the field, which they did. And McCain started winning. Mainly because of an operation chaos of the other side. I for one, never foresaw him as a nominee.

Thanks, Jim. It seems some Freepers need to be reminded that this is a conservative website, not a Republican one. There are places on the net where one can cheer for McCain without receiving conservative critism in response, but this is not one of them.

On DU, they’ve put out the word that once a Dem nominee is decided upon, posters WILL fall in line and cease criticism of him/her. That is the way liberals think, and it is a recipe for totalitarianism. That is NOT the way conservatives think, and the country (not to mention this forum) is better for it.

>>What about Dagny and Frisco? SecState and SecDef?

I think Ragnar Danneskjold would be either SecDef or Homeland Security.
Dagny would be good at SecState.
Frisco would be SecDef, Homeland Security or perhaps even SecOfInterior (copper mining background).

I’m a big fan of Ayn Rand. I just wish she had found a way to include spirituality and/or charity in her world.

“Why was there never a McCain truth file at the time when it might have done some good?”

Because McCain was doing so poorly, no one thought he was a threat. He simply rose to the top like spoiled milk.

The sad thing about the Shuler/Sessions bill is that it is a fraud intended to get Shuler reelected in Western Carolina. He ran here as a "conservative" with "mountain values." He even had the gall to blame McCain for stopping his SAVE bill from winning the Discharge Petition.

He admitted in a candid remark at a Christmas party in Macon County, my home, that "Nancy would never let it get out of committee." She also has prevented 39 of the 48 Democrats who co-sponsored it, from signing the Discharge.

Heath Shuler caused the defeat of his own bill, by voting in Nancy Pelosi as Speaker of the House. That's one of the reasons I'm running against Shuler; to hang Pelosi around his neck like a dead albatross so the conservative Republicans AND Democrats in Western Carolina will kick Heath Shuler to the curb.

It is pathetic that all sorts of people in Congress and out have gotten their knickers in a twist over what started out as a ploy to get one inadequate Democrat reelected in Buncombe County, NC. BTW, the word "bunk" originated from a speech given by another inadequate Congressman from this District, nearly a century ago.

“I guess we should then question our collective judgment.”

No, rhombus, just the opposite. Ignorance is electing John McCain and the media telling us nothing except he is a war hero.

Voters Unaware Of Candidates’ Immigration Positions - McCain Supporters Worst Informed

“”Only 34 percent of McCain voters, 42 percent of Clinton voters, and 52 percent of Obama voters correctly identified their candidate as favoring eventual citizenship for illegal immigrants who meet certain requirements.....Of McCain voters, 35 percent mistakenly thought he favored enforcement that would cause illegals to return home, another 10 percent thought he wanted mass deportations, and 21 percent didn’t know his position.””

"...But he's still a constitution trampling RINO and unless he repeals McCain-Feingold, repudiates amnesty and global warming, drops all support for embryonic stem cell research and stops talking about partnering up with the Democrats and instead swears to fight the evil bastards he won't be getting my support...."

I find there be 6 litmus tests to be a conservative according to your estimation--repeal McCain-F, repudiate amnesty, repudiate global warming, drop support for embryonic stem research and stop talking about partnering with Democrts.

Assume that the chance for any one view is 50/50. Then 1/2 X 1/2x 1/2x1/2x1/2x1/2x 1/2=128. If these beliefs are independent and each occurs at 50% you are going to find only one person in 128 who ascribes to all your views.

Of course, you can claim or imply that a real conservative would have all of these litmus tests, but the problem would remain for you to guess at the number of people that hold all six even though some may be cross correlated.

In any case, no matter what the calculation you are going to have those who do not agree with you on one or several of six litmust tests. Are they to be scorned as well?

This can only result in an immediate limitation of members in the group and with further litmus tests, even fewer. The recipe you give is exclusionary and likely to result in fewer and fewer members in the chosen, "real" conservative group. Further, human nature is such that being excluded hardens differences that latter impair the ability to cooperate and succeed in a mutually agreed upon effort.

Sure I can buy the fact that we listened to our own propaganda and didn’t bother worrying about McCain during the primaries (i.e., bad judgment on our part). So NOW, why isn’t there a McCain truth file? This thread has a bunch of people whining about McCain and inferring that no one knows how bad he is... and yet we STILL have no McCain truth file. Time to put up or shut up.
