A female police officer has been accepted into the Police Department's SWAT training program that could make her the first woman to join the elite group.

Jennifer Grasso, 36, is one of 13 officers selected for spots in the department's 12-week training school, which is scheduled to begin on Monday, according to an internal department e-mail quoted in a published report.

A confidential report made public earlier this month said a panel of law enforcement experts sought changes in SWAT testing to make the process more open to women.

Police Chief William Bratton has not discussed the details of the new selection criteria until the department's civilian oversight commission is briefed on them

Terrorists, gangbangers and other assorted criminals don’t care if the SWAT team members are male or female.

Either the person can do the job or he(she) can’t do the job.

Failure to do the job correctly could affect innocent people’s lives.

That’s what really is important.

Like the San Francisco chief of police and fire chief, this may not work out as well as they expect.

The LA Weekly had a devastating critique of the LA Fire Department’s disastrous and costly program to recruit more women, which failed miserably. Political correctness costs money... and lives.

As long as the standards were not lowered - and she met the same standards as the men.

The "bad guys" are not allowed to punch, kick or bite womem "in the chest area".

Also if the perp is 60 or more lbs heavier, he is not allowed to hit the woman with a club or tire iron.

If the perp can run faster than the woman, he must stop, pick up a cement block {and cannot hit or throw at female officer} and continue to try to run away.

This is just another PC bunch of crap. If the woman can make the SWAT team, with current, non-modified processes, fine, let her join, pass the tests and welcome.

The minute the lawyers and brass start "making the process more open" means that the physical standards are lowered.

People will die because of this kind of bullship.

that’s the issue. There are probably a small minority of women out there who can do jobs like this, and if they can pass the selection course, they ought to be allowed onto the teams. HOWEVER, in this case, the standards do appear to ave been changed.

Nope. That would be Hillary Rodham Clinton.

Are less capable guys going to be able to take the "women's version" of the test? If a woman can pass the standard test get her in, but don't lower the bar.

SF reduced its standards - for example, when it reduced the height requirement so it could hire Asians.

If the standards are the same and this woman has passed them, she’ll be a good cop.

I have searched high and low for that hilarious video that surfaced in the 90s of the women struggling to perform the fireman tasks on the test, but sadly, no luck yet.

If they could just convince the real bad guys to play by these rules, everything would be OK.

Nope. That would be Hillary Rodham Clinton.

She just hasn't remembered that yet, at least not publicly.
