Who is Odinga? Odinga is Obama's cousin. Odinga and Obama are from the same Kenyan Luo tribe. Odinga supporters are the people that are burning Christians alive, trapped inside churches ... Most of Odinga's fanatical followers are radical islamists who have pushed for Islamic Sharia Law...

Many Africans are East Bloc educated.

We have a saying ‘if the Devil gives you a scholarship, take it!’. Education was/is hard to come by, especially university education. Anyone who had an opportunity to be University educated took it.

You will be suprised at the number of Africans trained in the former East Bloc.

When Odinga came of age, there was only one University for the whole of East Africa, Makerere University.

1971 Obama enters the Besuki Primary School, a government school. He was enrolled as Barry Soetoro, Muslim.

All Indonesian students are required to study religion at school and a young Barry Soetoro, being a Muslim, would have been required to study Islam daily in school.

He would have been taught to read and write Arabic, to recite his prayers properly, to read and recite from the Quran and to study the laws of Islam.

In his autobiography, "Dreams From My Father," Obama mentions studying the Quran and describes the public school as "a Muslim school."

"In the Muslim school, the teacher wrote to tell mother I made faces during Koranic studies."

According to Tine Hahiyary, one of Obama's teachers and the principal from 1971 through 1989, Barry actively took part in the Islamic religious lessons during his time at the school. His teacher was named Maimunah and she lived in the Puncak area, the Cianjur Regency.

Our guy in Jakarta writes: "The actual usage of the word 'mengaji' in Indonesian and Malaysian societies means the study of learning to recite the Quran in the Arabic language rather than the native tongue. To put it quite simply, 'mengaji classes' are not something that a non practicing or so-called moderate Muslim family would ever send their child to. To put this in a Christian context, this is something above and beyond simply enrolling your child in Sunday school classes."

Indonesia is a Muslim country, China is a communist country. Every child attending public school in China learns about Chairman Mao and Marxist thought, every child attending public school in Indonesia learns about Islam.

I should have written ‘University of East Africa’. The University of East Africa had campuses in Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania.

Whatever good the British did, their record on education in the Colonies was terrible. (They were better than the Spanish and Portugese though). The University of East Africa was only established in the early sixties.

It would be hard for Americans to understand how 3 different nations (Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania) shared one small university immediately after independence.

Well, yes perhaps by comparison. But I think it's well understood that Africa has had a difficult history in the last few hundred years!

But back to the original topic of this thread. I was intrigued by your comment that Obama exerted influence in the "truce" between Odinga and Kubaki after the December 2007 election. I find no other reference to this, only a mention that Obama had "campaigned" for Odinga in 2006.

Also, in what context would the MOU between Odinga and NAMLEF (the National Muslim Leaders Forum) be irrelevant? Wikipedia reports the religious make-up of Kenya as: "Protestant and Quaker 45%, Roman Catholic 25%, Islam 10%, Traditional Religions 10%."

If the MOU were carried out, it appears that Muslim regions would obtain full automony and implement Sharia law within those regions and permit them to exercise "an oversight role to monitor activites of ALL other religions" and "disband the imperialist Anti-Terrorist Police Unit that was set up for the sole purpose of terrorizing, harassing, intimidating and deporting innocent Kenyan Muslims to Guantanamo Bay."

It is talking about Kibaki’s (Odinga’s main opponent) attempts to woo the Muslim vote.

Even in Europe, major politicians try to woo the Muslim vote. In some European countries, you cannot win a comfortable majority without wooing the Muslim vote. In Germany for example, the Turkish vote is important.

Both Kibaki and Odinga signed MOU’s with Muslims. I am afraid, you guys have swallowed Kibaki propaganda hook, line and sinker.

If the US had 10% muslim minority, major politicians would pander to that minority. That is the nature of democratic politics.

A Kenyan mud-slinging event has now been internationalized because Obama and Odinga happen to be Luo. Get me right, both Odinga and Kibaki are SOBs who would do anything (including murder) to get elected. They are neither better nor worse than Musharraf, King Abdullah or most African leaders.

Do you think any Kenyan leader is stupid enough to antagonize the US and forgo foreign aid? Kenya will continue to cooperate with the US on radical Islamist terrorism regardless of who is elected.

mohammad invented his 'religion' in the seventh century AD. He plagiarized the Original Testament from the hebrews, learned from their wise men as they taught their wisdom orally, as mohammad was an illiterate, a beggar, attempting to convert who-ever might listen. The religion of the hebrews was already several millenia of age, Christianity preceeded mohammad by seven centuries.

The Status of Non-Muslims Under Muslim Rule

After the rapid expansion of the Muslim dominion in the 7th century, Muslims leaders were required to work out a way of dealing with Non-Muslims, who remained in the majority in many areas for centuries. The solution was to develop the notion of the "dhimma", or "protected person". The Dhimmi were required to pay an extra tax, but usually they were unmolested. This compares well with the treatment meted out to non-Christians in Christian Europe. The Pact of Umar is supposed to have been the peace accord offered by the Caliph Umar to the Christians of Syria, a "pact" which formed the patter of later interaction.

We heard from 'Abd al-Rahman ibn Ghanam [died 78/697] as follows: When Umar ibn al-Khattab, may God be pleased with him, accorded a peace to the Christians of Syria, we wrote to him as follows:

In the name of God, the Merciful and Compassionate. This is a letter to the servant of God Umar [ibn al-Khattab], Commander of the Faithful, from the Christians of such-and-such a city. When you came against us, we asked you for safe-conduct (aman) for ourselves, our descendants, our property, and the people of our community, and we undertook the following obligations toward you:

We shall not build, in our cities or in their neighborhood, new monasteries, Churches, convents, or monks' cells, nor shall we repair, by day or by night, such of them as fall in ruins or are situated in the quarters of the Muslims.
