I should have written ‘University of East Africa’. The University of East Africa had campuses in Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania.
Whatever good the British did, their record on education in the Colonies was terrible. (They were better than the Spanish and Portugese though). The University of East Africa was only established in the early sixties.
It would be hard for Americans to understand how 3 different nations (Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania) shared one small university immediately after independence.
