Some mornings I wake up and, for a minute or two, I think that I must have been dreaming that there are conservatives who hate John McCain so much that, come November, they intend to stay home and let Bill Clinton’s wife or Jeremiah Wright’s surrogate nephew become president of the United States. But then I realize it’s not a dream, and that’s when the nightmare really begins.
Recently, I wrote a piece in which I stated a few of the reasons why I think McCain should be elected. I ended with a notion for a bumper-sticker: “Better an Imperfect Republican Than a Perfect Socialist”. But, still, I heard from a number of disgruntled right-wingers who vowed not to sully their principles by helping to elect a candidate they regarded as indistinguishable from Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama.
I will repeat for the rest of you what I replied to these people. Granted, I don’t agree with Sen. McCain about amnesty for illegal aliens. But his position is no worse than that of the Democrats, and at least I’m confident that he’s opposed to the illegals having the right to vote in our elections. Democrats, as we all know, are for universal suffrage -- and that includes felons locked up in jails and people buried in cemeteries.
On the plus side of the ledger, McCain has never voted to increase taxes. Initially, he voted against Bush’s tax cuts, but that was because he wanted them tied to cuts in spending. However, when he lost that battle, he voted to make the tax cuts permanent. He is also leading the fight against earmarks.

Unfortunately for Romney fans, he won’t be picking Mitt. But even if he does, it won’t be enough for conservatives to come back to the fold. And McPain has done nothing since winning the nomination to deserve conservatives’ support. In fact, he’s moved even further left. He’s basically a hawkish liberal in GOP clothing. They made a Steve McQueen movie called “The War Lover”. THAT is Juan McJerk!

That's a mistaken and insulting appraisal implying that the REAL reason "disgruntled right-wingers" don't want to vote for McCain is because they're too proud. The writer is thinking in very shallow and egotistic terms.
THIS "disgruntled right-winger" is looking at a McCain presidency versus the alternatives with a view to long-term consequences and calculated risk, and the way I see it, the odds are extremely high that McCain would do more long-term damage to the USA and the Repuclian party than either Obama or Hillary, who (contrary to the Politics of Fear that has so many conservatives whimpering like emasculated cowards) will be opposed and divisive within their own party as well as without -- Democrats win by fraud and their support is illusion. They would be unpopular, accomplish little of their campaign agenda, and do more than McCain could ever do in terms of making the Republican party look better to average Americans every day; McCain, who is a Liberal Democrat Republican, presents a tiny fraction of the odds of resulting in anything positive for the USA or Republicans -- hence the smarter thing to do, for America AND for conservatisim, is to seek his defeat.

I don’t understand the “love affair” some freepers have with Michael Steele. Isn’t he the floppy-eared RINO in the three-piece suits? He ain’t a conservative, that’s for sure. Why would anyone get excited about a double RINO ticket? It’s political suicide.

I agree, Buck BC, but I think it's more likely that it's is mind that's going to go. My gosh ... McCain is wacked-out and is going to blow sooner or later and make a spectacle of himself that will brand the Republican party as the party of the Crazy People. It is ABSURD for people to think the country is more endangered by Hillary or Obama than McCain -- MCCAIN IS THE WORST OF THE EVILS here. Obama and Hillary would be divisive and hated by an EASY 50 percent of Americans very quickly, and the Democrat party would rightly pay the price in damaged image and loss of voters. McCain would betray conservative Republicans, his Liberal policies would fail as Liberalism is always doomed to fail, and yet the Republican party would get the blame and Democrats would remain smugly immume from responsibility -- indeed, their image would be better than ever. I repeat: MCCAIN IS THE WORST OF THE EVILS.
If he gets into the White House, he's going to leave a stain on the Republican Party that may never wash out. And I don't think he'd keep his marbles for more than a few years, hence his VP is really who we'd be electing president.
Better not to vote for a crazed war monger The War Lover McLame and vote third party or not at all. McJerk brought all this on himself after a quarter century screwing and hating conservatives. His only hope are crossover Dems and Indies.
If he wins he will sell us out in a nano-second and his media will protray it as a great act of courage.

If you were only right. Unfortunately, I don’t think he has sufficiently strong principles to select a running mate who would more conservative than he is. This is said with the understanding that a doorknob, or even a prune Danish would be more conservative than he is.
But I am certain, and praying to be wrong, that he will disappoint in a major way with his selection of some vanilla, spaghetti-spined career politician like himself, who brings not the least bit of interest or color to the race. Kind of like George H. W. did with his selection of Dan Quayle, or Bob Dole, with his anointing of...I don’t even remember, he was so notable.

Of course we think the way we do only because we're "spoiled brats" who want to get "revenge" and are too proud to "sully our principles," right? *sigh* Some people are just so emotionally tied to the Republican party that they can't think straight -- and I am someone who, in more than 30 years of voting in every election, never voted for anything BUT the Republican party ticket. I am as loyal as any other Republican, but in the name of truth and duty to my country, I can no longer labor under the illusion that just because McCain is a Republican, he's automatically the lesser of two evils. The sad truth is that he is the greater of political evils in terms of presidential choices.
I can’t believe you would allow facts to get in the way of pulling that lever for good ole mclame. Common sense is way over-rated.
That presumes that his memory lapses and anger management problems were not caused by those five years of brutal treatment. Not all damage is as visible as a withered arm or broken bones.
I respect and honor Sen. McCain for his service to country and for keeping faith with his fellow POWs. That being said, I don't regard him as particularly stable nor do I trust his recent conversion to "conservatism" after years of his demonstrated liberalism.
It is almost certain that I shall vote for him regardless of my reservations. To follow any other course would do inescapable harm by aiding the democrat victory. I am caught between the devil and the deep blue sea and shall make my final decision when I see his Vice Presidential choice.

When McLame has barely 50% of the Conservative vote, and in the election, about at least 25% will simply not vote for him, that makes his chances of winning very slim. He can pander to the moderates and Indies all he wants. It will do him very little good.
Real Conservatives simply do not trust him or believe him. Especially his outright lies that he claims to be a Conservative in all of his speeches, in spite of his Liberal record and repeated abuse of the Conservative base.

I could care less what you think. I was just giving voice to my point of view.
I wasn’t trying to set anyone straight - least of all a supercilious little smart-alec who feels entirely justified in attacking anyone who dares to disagree with his slavish devotion to a political entity that views him - at best - as a necessary cog in the machine and at worst as a useful idiot to be ignored after the election.
Go write a contribution check to McCain - he’s in dire need of your love and devotion.
