Some mornings I wake up and, for a minute or two, I think that I must have been dreaming that there are conservatives who hate John McCain so much that, come November, they intend to stay home and let Bill Clinton’s wife or Jeremiah Wright’s surrogate nephew become president of the United States. But then I realize it’s not a dream, and that’s when the nightmare really begins.
Recently, I wrote a piece in which I stated a few of the reasons why I think McCain should be elected. I ended with a notion for a bumper-sticker: “Better an Imperfect Republican Than a Perfect Socialist”. But, still, I heard from a number of disgruntled right-wingers who vowed not to sully their principles by helping to elect a candidate they regarded as indistinguishable from Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama.
I will repeat for the rest of you what I replied to these people. Granted, I don’t agree with Sen. McCain about amnesty for illegal aliens. But his position is no worse than that of the Democrats, and at least I’m confident that he’s opposed to the illegals having the right to vote in our elections. Democrats, as we all know, are for universal suffrage -- and that includes felons locked up in jails and people buried in cemeteries.
On the plus side of the ledger, McCain has never voted to increase taxes. Initially, he voted against Bush’s tax cuts, but that was because he wanted them tied to cuts in spending. However, when he lost that battle, he voted to make the tax cuts permanent. He is also leading the fight against earmarks.

I said I wouldn’t vote for McCain. Over the past few weeks, all I have heard is the Obama/Clinton rumblings and realized that McCain isn’t that bad.
Then he comes out with a speech this week that confirms my earlier thoughts, I can’t vote for the guy.
If he would just shut up for a few months, maybe we will all forget...again...
I confess that I would hold my nose and vote for McCain if I lived in a state that mattered. But as I am stuck here in Blue State Hell (also known as the Benighted Commonwealth of Massachusetts), which will vote overwhelming for the Democrat nominee in any case, I have the luxury of refusing to vote for McCain with a clear conscience.
So I won’t be pulling a lever for McCain this November. I will, however, be voting for whoever ends up running against John Kerry (probably Ogonowski).
McCain’s own history seems to suggest that a VP pick for him would be little more than a means of drawing votes but would have no effect on policy because McCain does what McCain wants, period.
As far as suggesting that McCain might retire after one term, well that’s just plain sad that anyone would even try that pathetic ploy.

Are there others? Voting third party, of course is casting a vote and exercising the right to vote. Staying home is not good.

Yes. He has had two bouts with malignant melanoma and a body that has been absolutely ravaged with with torture, violence and five jet crashes (he is a “reverse Ace after-all”). In short, he’s a good pick for your dead-pool.
My wife is a Cytotechnologist who works in the field of Oncology. She says that the odds of a recurrence of the melanoma are not small and that if it does recur, it could kill him in five years, or it could kill him five weeks depending on how far it has advanced into the lymphatic system.
If he has a real conservative Veep, he would make sure that the Country would be in good hands in the event of his demise.

Not necessarily. A third party vote is not a vote for McCain and not a vote for the Dem. I believe the cumulative vote count for all third party candidates would be a good measure of overall dissatisfaction of the public with the lousy choices both sides have this time around. I suspect it will be higher than the typical third party vote (but less than that idiot Perot gathered).

I can't vote for McCain...I'll look to third party. The rest of the ticket I'll search for what conservatives I can, but it's slim pickin's and little hope.
Living in Mississippi, I have the same luxury. If McLame needs my one vote to carry the reddest of the red states, he is in a hell of alot trouble.

This is the man John McCain chose to be his "Hispanic Outreach Director." Hernandez is a certified traitor. Born in Dallas, he decided as an adult to become a dual-national Mexican citizen. His last "real" job was serving on Mexican President Vicente Fox's cabinet as his "American Reconquista Director." After that gig ran out, he worked (sic) for George Soros funded internationalist foundations, like the one that published his new book.
The "New American Pioneers" proclaimed in his book are the illegal alien invaders he urges to become settlers in the USA. Hernandez believes all Mexicans and Mexican-Americans in the USA should become dual citizens and consider themselves Mexicans first, "to the 8th generation." He believes there should be no border at all between Mexico and the USA, ever.
And this is the man McCain chose for his "Hispanic Outreach Director." In the past week McCain was asked about this choice, and he said he chose Hernandez because he agrees with his positions. If so, McCain is supporting invasion and reconquista.
Then I read our Constitution, Article 4 Section 4, where it says the federal government MUST protect the states from invasion, and I can only conclude one thing: John McCain is our new Benedict Arnold.

That would only be true if Republicans truly represented conservative values. They don't even pretend to do that anymore.
In their own way, the GOP is just as bad for conservatives as the Rats -- maybe even more so.
The only way to protect ourselves from the GOP and the Rats is to rotate the two parties in and out of the White House and Congress every four years. Hopefully, that will minimize the damage each party can do. Eight years of one party is just too long. Eight years of Dubya followed by four years of McCain would be a disaster.

He’s going to be a one-term loser at best, not a lot different from Carter. All the usual Commies will be lining up in ‘12.
Without giving aid and comfort to the RAT enemy, I will just say that while all of what you say favoring John McCain might be true, the problem I have with him is personal. He competed for last place on my list of preferred presidential candidates with Mike Huckabee. The only consideration left to me is to what extent I will support the Republican party. I will vote straight Republican because never would I register or vote for the socialist RAT party. Our party needs strong candidates for the Senate and House regardless of who becomes CIC. As to financing the campaign for McCain, there will be no money flowing from this household until we know who will be his Vice President. Mitt Romney is our preference because he fills in and compensates for a lot of McCain shortcomings. The choice of Vice President may be the most important decision John McCain will make that will determine whether he wins the Presidency in November.
Now this McCain fellow: He calls me a racist. He cuts off my free speech. He twice contemplates switching over to the Democrats because Republicans weren’t good enough for him. He regularly blocked critical funding for National Guard equipment now showing up as shortfalls. He thinks people who believe in religious principles are evangelist zealots. He defended John Kerry’s dubious military record while ridiculing George Bush’s. His close Senate friends are Clinton and Kennedy and Kerry. He still is all for granting citizenship to 20 million illegal aliens. He has a personal past only a little more constrained than Eliot Spitzer.
But this clown thinks we have to vote for him because he highjacked the nomination with 65% of the Republicans against him using nonsensical primary and caucus rulings.
McCain as president will guarantee that all Democrat legislative objectives will be accomplished and all judicial appointments will be compromised to Souter-like nominees acceptable to the Dems. Republican congressional minorities will be further emasculated and reduced.
Nahhh! Better to eat the four years and watch the Dems self-destruct. A real conservative Republican party will be back in 2012, along with a new Congressional majority free of the RINO elites.
