EAST ST. LOUIS, Ill. A 77-year-old Illinois state representative is happy to be alive after a man with a gun pushed his way into her home and robbed her of $7.
Wyvetter H. Younge was not injured in the robbery that occurred around noon Friday.
Younge said she thought her son had knocked on her door and opened it, but instead found an armed man. He told her to get on her hands and knees, then grabbed her purse and ran.
Younge, a Democrat, said she didn't recognize the man, who wore a red hat and red jacket and dark pants. She said she's going to pray for him.
"This robbery and what's happening to this community is the result of a lack of a supportive system for our youth. We need jobs," she said. "This happened in broad daylight at noon. We need a mental health support system. This is further evidence of that."

Betcha the robber will be back—he just found a “Patsy”.
I'll say you do, Rep. Younge.
If it’s East St. Louis, or even just St. Louis, it is a Democrat bastion where sometimes the dead vote on Election Day.
Well, if the old saying is true, she WAS a Dem...
How is it possible? I thought handguns were all but banned in Illinois?
And that’s why “Reverend” Jeremiah Wright moved and retired to the gated white community. He was tired of this sheeeeeeeeeeeeeet
I'm from St. Louis and I agree this is absolutely the case in the City of St. Louis, not the suburbs.
HOWEVER, I don't see the relevancy of this 77 year old woman's political affiliation. My God, she was robbed in her own home at gunpoint by a thug. I doubt if the idiot checked out whether she was a Republic, Democrat, black or white. He violated her and my prayers go out to this woman.
Of course the connection is Democrats are known to push for legislation restricting gun ownership and use. Now Yonge realizes that these laws are ignored by lawbreakers.
The relevancy is that this Democrat polititian more than likely votes anti-gun for the citizens of her state - leving people like herself absolutely defenseless from these thugs. She most likely votes for liberal judges that keep giving these thugs short sentences when caught thereby letting them back out on the street to continue their chosen "profession". She blames everyone but the perp......typical democrat.
That is supposed to be their family, dear lady.
I go the East St. Louis regularly for business. The downtown reminds me of the empty city in the original War of the Worlds movie.
...and herself, for enabling the perp.
I was thinking the same thing. I’d venture to say that she’s well on her way to becoming a conservative. :-)
Your prayers are vey kind, but this incident makes me wonder. A push in job, she submits, he takes her purse and runs. Methinks there is more to the story.
Illinois needs to tighten its lax gun control laws
Poor guy, all he needed was a hug from his granny.
IL needs a mental health support system alright, for it's voters. IL voters keep electing liberal Democrat morons like this woman to the state house, and that's a sure sign of mental illness.
IL also needs a law allowing lawful citizens to be armed for their own self defense against criminals like the woman's attacker, but instead Democrat lawmakers are trying hard to take away the few gun rights that IL citizens have left. Gun laws do nothing but disarm honest people who obey the law, and those people aren't the problem. Criminals don't care about gun laws, they're criminals and breaking laws is their line of work. Why would anyone expect them to obey gun laws when they don't obey laws against murder, rape, robbery, etc? How can people be stupid enough to think that ANY gun control law will prevent crime when common sense tells anyone who has even a smidgen of it just the opposite?
Yeah, right; the thug (of unknown description, though his clothing colors are well described) who robbed her would have rather been working? Get a clue!
If I were a decent young black man I'd be pi$$ed (or at least annoyed) at me for my assumptions, but hey, what else could I think?
When your work takes you to particular neighborhoods, as does mine, you've got a lot to consider. Call police HQ before going to the property and request a rollby. Don't make eye contact and you're perceived as a target. Make eye contact and you're a threat or a challenge. Don't wear anything red or blue, or you'll be dissing one of the gang factions...

She's 77 years old--she's darn lucky she wasn't harmed physically.
From her statements, though, it doesn't look like she learned much from the experience.
