NAA Reveals Biggest Ad Revenue Plunge in More Than 50 Years ( MSM Drive Bys Tank!)

NEW YORK The newspaper industry has experienced the worst drop in advertising revenue in more than 50 years.

According to new data released by the Newspaper Association of America, total print advertising revenue in 2007 plunged 9.4% to $42 billion compared to 2006 -- the most severe percent decline since the association started measuring advertising expenditures in 1950.

The drop-off points to an economic slowdown on top of the secular challenges faced by the industry. The second worst decline in advertising revenue occurred in 2001 when it fell 9.0%.

Total advertising revenue in 2007 -- including online revenue -- decreased 7.9% to $45.3 billion compared to the prior year.

There are signs that online revenue is beginning to slow as well. Internet ad revenue in 2007 grew 18.8% to $3.2 billion compared to 2006. In 2006, online ad revenue had soared 31.4% to $2.6 billion. In 2005, it jumped 31.4% to $2 billion.

As newspaper Web sites generate more advertising revenue, the growth rate naturally slows.

The NAA reported that online revenue now represents 7.5% of total newspaper ad revenue in 2007 compared to 5.7% in 2006.

That growth could not stave off the losses in the print however. National print advertising revenue dropped 6.7% to $7 billion last year. Retail slipped 5% to $21 billion. Classified plunged 16.5% to $14.1 billion.

"Even with the near-term challenges posed to print media by a more fragmented information environment and the economic headwinds facing all advertising media, newspapers publishers are continuing to drive strong revenue growth from their increasingly robust Web platforms," John Sturm, president and CEO of the NAA, said in a statement.

The failure in ad revenuse is ascribed to a "failing economy." The Drive By Rags are too stupid to understand that they have ruined their market, by selling propaganda, spun news, and fiction INSTEAD of News. The UNPATRIOTIC, LIBERAL SOCIALIST SUPPORTING,TREASONOUS MSM print media is not trusted by the general public.

Since the public know about the MSM print medias falsehood, they seek other alternatives for ACCURATE, TIMELY news ONLINE.

Among the worst offenders? The New York Slimes who continuously accepted CIA and State Department Liberal Socialist Clintonista leaks to try and destroy the US War on Islamofascism.

When I read this article, it was a joyful experience and a humorous one. The rags think they are doing poorly on advertising revenue because the economy is poor?

BUAHAHAHAHHAHHA!

Let them go right on thinking that as they tank deeper and deeper!

When you consider this issue, you realize you're actually addressing a business community that is tasked with revealing information to the American public. It is startling that they are so self-diluded that they actually think this is not ideologically driven, or that their readers and advertisers are not simply tired of their distorted news reports, and realize they can get better exposure from those advertising dollars via other media purchases.

The NAA has gotten this one about as accurate as their editors have when covering news for the last thirty years.

RIP NAA.

And the (NYT) Bill Keller's of the print medium will not stray from their obligate hatred of America, even though editorial fairness and balance would bring them back from the oblivion that they seem to want.

Pity.

I agree 100% with you. Its funny to see the rationalization process unfold as they fail or refuse to meet the issue head on: NO ONE WANTS TO READ YOUR PROPAGANDA!

Its a measure of just how far buried they are in their Liberal Socialist Utopian unreality. I hope that we are all someday treated to the surrealistic vision of all of them in a huge field, all sitting there in front of manual typewritters on picnic benches, talking about the good old days when they did not write the news, " THEY MADE ( UP) THE NEWS."

Well its haunting them now, and looks good on them.

BUauahahahahah!

“The newspaper industry has experienced the worst drop in advertising revenue in more than 50 years.”

Economic Reality is such a mean B$tch for liberal owned and controlled organizations.

No wonder the US Junk Media thinks we are in a recession. Their industry is in one. Wonder if “Journalists” will be jumping out of windows when we actually do have a recession?
