Dad Allowed to Take Leave From Prison to See His Dying Little Girl

OMAHA, Neb. — A 10-year-old Nebraska girl with terminal brain cancer had a simple last wish: to have her dad by her side as she lay on her death bed.
On Wednesday, seemingly against all odds, Jayci Yaeger's wish came true.
Her father, Jason Yaeger, who has been locked up in a South Dakota federal prison on methamphetamine charges, was allowed to see his daughter for what may be the last time.
He was furloughed after a barrage of letters and phone calls from around the country convinced officials to let him visit the hospital, according to KETV.com.
Jayci, who cannot speak, move or eat, could sense that her father was next to her and feel his touch, because she began breathing more heavily during his visit, the family told FOX News.
But to their disappointment, the visit lasted only about 30 minutes.
"She wants her dad. She goes to her room crying because she wants her dad," Jayci's mom, Vonda Yaeger, told KETV before the prison warden agreed to permit Jason to see his daughter.
The girl's condition has been described as minute-to-minute, and she recently suffered a stroke.

As someone else already stated, I would rather pay for this than cable.
The cost of this visit compared to the total cost of his incarceration is infinitesimal. It’s amazing what people focus on with stories like this.

This was not a “sick kid.” This was a girl who was dying of terminal brain cancer, who could not eat, talk, move. She is going to die in the very near future. Her condition is described as minute by minute.
I am always amazed at the hardliners on this forum who call for the most harsh and merciless treatment of these sort of folks, yet espouse Christian principles. Apparently, mercy and forbearing judgment on others are not important enough Christian principles to include in your daily walk.
Sort of like when Rush, who I greatly enjoy, formerly talked about no mercy treatment of drug crimes. His actions surely show that he does not espouse that treatment now.
We are taught that mercy will be given unto us as we give it to others. God gives us mercy even though we do not deserve it. I know I have done nothing measurably to deserve God’s mercy, but I know that He consistently and faithfully gives mercy to me anyway, and calls on us to do the same to others.
For the record, this guy said he would do double his remaining time if he was let out. Sounds like a guy his trying to do the right thing to me, someone who is willing to sacrifice for the sake of his daughter. He was not asking to have his sentence shortened, or to get out of his sentence altogether; he was asking to be able to comfort his 10 year old daughter in her last hours on Earth.
Also, it did not cost thousands to take this guy to see her. It cost her the gas. The guards that accompanied him are hourly employees, they would have gotten paid just the same.
On what grounds????? Just because you feel sorry for a little girl who's dying? How many other little girls and boys had their lives destroyed by the poison this cretin was cooking and selling? Give me a break.
A childs love toward the parent is pretty much unconditional. What harm is there in letting this sweet little girl have her Dad, rotton idiot that he is, be there for this child?
Maybe, just maybe this will touch the Dad. However, this little girl should get to have her father by her side.

I can understand why anyone would oppose the use of taxpayer funds to cover these costs, but this seems like a good cause for a charity (and would probably be a legitimate extension of the corporal work of mercy known as the admonition to "visit the imprisoned").
I’m with you P-mom. This is outrageous. I feel terrible that this little girl is dying but I see absolutely no reason to transport this creep back and forth between the hospital and jail. He’s a meth dealer...how many other kids did his actions ruin? Where’s the compassion for them?
No, they had to hire EXTRA guards to perform the work these guys should have been doing.

Nothing was posted last week about permission being granted. That is a new development.
I was wondering why it was taking so long to give him the visit. I don’t really care about him, but that little girl should not be deprived of her dying wish.

Nothing I ever said allowed anyone to come to that conclusion. Certainly, he did not put a gun to their head to buy the meth. But he is in prison, and has been serving time, for selling meth. So, he has been punished for “touching” people with the meth he sold.
What is so ridiculous is that he scheduled to get out in August, anyway. I am not sure why a 30 day furlough, when he is that close to getting out, would impact society.
For whatever animosity you have towards him, which is kind of weird in the first place because you don’t know him, just remember that God views our deeds as sinful as his. So, if you think you are at bottom any better (morally, sinfully) as this, God does not share your judgment.
It ain’t the place it was when I first joined. My tenth anniversary as a Freeper is April 2...it’s not the same solid conservative forum now that it was then. More fun in the old days too.
