The probation officer in charge of keeping track of Laurence Alvin Lovette never met with the teenager, according to probation records.
Officer Chalita N. Thomas, pulled off the case in early March because of a drunken-driving charge, went by Lovette's mother's home in Durham once in late February, according to the probation records, but he was not there.
Then, on the day Lovette was charged with murder in the deaths of UNC-Chapel Hill student body president Eve Carson and Duke University graduate student Abhijit Mahato, Thomas added a backdated account of missed meetings and phone calls into computer records, according to probation records.

Am I reading that correctly? A PROBATION OFFICER, pulled off the case due to a DUI? LOL! Great example to set for the kids you’re in charge of straightening out.
Yet another case of an inmate running the asylum.
Her SECOND DUI. She’d already been convicted of one in 2006, and was charged with a second here recently.

ah..the look on her face when she realized this was one of her cases. She must've been running to her office that day to create 'fake' meetings and conversations with him.
just a mountain of incompetance. shame, for Eve C. Wonder if her family will sue?
Idiocracy was a light-hearted, "feel-good" attempt to give the catastrophe some publicity, but in our near future, try to imagine the idiots being armed with machetes and 9mm's.
Prepare for the worst.
Oh, it gets better. The bottom-of-the-hour local radio news just said that Thomas, the probation officer, had no fewer than ELEVEN criminal charges filed against her in four North Carolina counties in the past five years. What the charges were was not specified.
Now I know how she got a job as a probation officer. She already knew how the system worked so she didn’t need any training!

I’m going out on a limb here to guess this was an affirmative action hire?
You're not kidding. I found the opening scene in that film to be unsettling --only because it is so true!
For those of you who are curious, the film Idiocracy opens with a montage showing how a family of "Jerry Springer guests" type people multiplies like rabbits while smart, successful couples fail to find the time to have children. The result is that in 500 years, the nation is populated by complete morons, hence the film's title.
This is Durham we’re talking about. She’s not an affirmative action hire...she’s pretty typical.

And you are pretty correct. Anybody in their right mind does not want to do any business in or with Durham County due to their total I AM attitude. My firm is in land development and anybody that calls us is immediately told that we do not do business in that county. Even when I was in the graphic imaging business I hated going to any of the county buildings knowing they were such idiots.
The only reason for her to meet with Lovette would have been to exchange tips and techniques for a successful criminal career.
She’ll make a fine Senator or Congressperson one day, LOL!
I think the way to deal with people today is to automatically assume that everyone you meet is on drugs or some other stimulant and that you need to be damn careful. Let the person prove that they are sane and sober before you let your guard down, even a little bit. This rule applies to everyone, cops, doctors, officials, neighbors, coworkers, everyone.
The wind always blows in Charlotte because Durham really sucks!!
An excellent candidate for DA or a State Senator.
Democrats rule!
