A PRAYER OF PROTECTION

The light of God surround you
The love of God enfold you
The power of God protect you
The presence of God watch over you
Wherever you are, God is,
And all is well.
Amen.

BLESS THIS HOUSE
 Bless this house O Lord we pray; Make it safe by night and day;
Bless these walls so firm and stout, Keeping want and trouble out:
Bless the roof and chimneys tall, Let thy peace lie over all;
Bless this door, that it may prove ever open to joy and love.
Bless these windows shining bright, Letting in God's heav'nly light;
Bless the hearth a'blazing there, with smoke ascending like a prayer;
Bless the folk who dwell within, keep them pure and free from sin;
Bless us all that we may be Fit O Lord to dwell with thee;
Bless us all that one day we May dwell O Lord with thee.

Just Jewelry?
God forbid that I should boast except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ. —Galatians 6:14

Some Christians make it a habit to wear a cross. It may be on a necklace or a lapel pin. It may be worn thoughtlessly as a decoration or prayerfully to let people know of the wearer’s personal faith.

In April 2006, a Methodist church in the city of Dudley, England, found out that it would have to pay a fee to put a cross on its new building. Yes, a fee was required because under British law the cross is an advertisement. It proclaims to the world, whether on a person or a building, that the blood-stained cross of Calvary is our only hope of forgiveness and salvation.

Our Bible reading today tells us of the cross—the instrument of execution used on our Savior (Matt. 27:22-26). The crowd in anger shouted, “Let Him be crucified!” The cross is a sign of His death, and must not be taken lightly. This should cause us to examine what the cross means to us. Is it a witness to our eternal hope in the saving death of Jesus on Calvary?

While wearing the cross may be a challenging mark of discipleship, far more challenging is our Lord’s command that we “take up [our] cross daily” and learn what it means to follow in His footsteps (Luke 9:23). And that includes a willingness to practice costly discipleship.

“Take up thy cross and follow Me,”
I hear the blessed Savior call;
How can I make a lesser sacrifice
When Jesus gave His all?  —Ackley

Because Jesus bore the cross for us, we should be willing to take it up for Him.

Thanks for tonites thread Star!
Good evening Ma!
Good evening Canteeners, Veterans and Troops!
The power poutage I had last night was not due to the wind, as I thought.
It was caused by some poor soul who lost control of their car and snapped a pole IN HALF.
The house cooled down pretty fast, so I fired up the woodstove and lit alot of candles.
I finally gave up waiting for the power to come back on, so I went to bed.
I’m saying a prayer for whoever hit that pole.
Hope everyone is well!

Gidday Star, and thanks for the thread!

Does anyone have a photo of the monument in Washington DC? I can’t recall seeing it when I was there in 1988 — so I either missed out on seeing the largest statue in the world, or it was put up sometime later...!

(I had a great time in Washington DC in 1988 — it was like an epiphany, for it was there that I suddenly and permanently understood Americans and what is is like for them to be Americans.)

When I was promoted to the rank of Sgt. in the MARINE CORPS, I strove to be like Sgt. Strank.He told his guys that his job was to get them home to their famlies. I tried to be like that, sometimes I was good at it, other times I failed very badly, but I was always there when me, when my MARINES needed me. [those assigned to me]
There qwere others who were not in my eyes real leaders, they were out just for themselves [IMHO]. When given a choice I always took the guys that no one wanted for their crews for any reason! These guys I could count on to watch my back in a fire and cover my rear end if needed, and I would watch out over them as well.
