15 cars in less than a month. Probably just some rowdy 'youths' having fun. Let's start calling Dallas the 'Paris of America'.

I had my car broken into in SW Fort Worth. Stealing other peoples hard-earned money. I bought the top of the line GPS with money I earned while in Iraq. Of course, it should have been brought in, but I use it everyday. Fricking bastards, I wish they’d have been caught in the act. They’d have met my 7.62 if they did anything that I felt was detrimental to my life.

Um..... Chances are good that the people doing so aren’t from “The Religion Of Peace®”, as I’m sure you know. If they were, the car fires would be in Richardson or Irving.

No, South Dallas? Either “insurance” fires, or people torching evidence.

Must be a slow news day.

I know I would certainly like more information than simply “cars”, when it is up to 8 in one night.

SUVs?
Certain manufacturer?
Clunkers?
Certain bumperstickers?

Oak Cliff was a town located in Dallas County, Texas (USA), that was annexed by the neighboring city of Dallas in 1903. It has since retained a distinct neighborhood identity as "Dallas' older, established neighborhood". As such, it is often called "The Cliff."

Oak Cliff has turn of the century and mid-20th century housing, many parks and remarkably close proximity to the central business district of downtown Dallas without the heavy vehicular traffic or higher cost of housing commonly associated with Dallas' northern neighborhoods.

The current boundaries of Oak Cliff are roughly Interstate 30 and the Trinity River on the north, Interstate 35E on the east, Camp Wisdom Road on the south, and Cockrell Hill Road on the west. In practice nearly every neighborhood south of the Trinity River (excluding west Dallas) is called Oak Cliff, though much of it was never part of the original town. For example, the South Oak Cliff

neighborhood (the primary African-American neighborhood in Dallas), which generally includes neighborhoods south of Illinois Avenue, was never part of the original town of Oak Cliff, just as the Arcadia Park area was once its own municipality.

Let's start calling Dallas the 'Paris of America'.

You have no idea as to how screwed up big D is. The mayor has very little power and each city council district is run as a fifedom. The politics there are very midevil (pun intended) and Mocavelian. Crupption is rampant and crime is through the roof (they had to change to way they recorded crime to lower the rates). The only times I go to Dallas is to pass through on the interstate, and I live next door in F.W..

DPD usually gets about 15 torch cases a week from that area. Usually they’re stolen cars that people are burning to hide evidence or they’re cars that the owners can’t pay for/don’t want any more.

Um, I call BS on that one.

Dallas was actually HONESTLY reporting the crime rates and the FBI was telling everyone else to use “creative” math. So, compared to the other cities’ reports, Dallas’ was ‘artificially’ high.

For example, the FBI says that if X number of burglaries occur in a certain block radius on a single night, they are supposed to be reported as a single “spree” crime whether they were actually related or not - which is stupid. Dallas was the only city in the US that was actually reporting the crimes individually instead of as a single combined offense. Dallas finally buckled under to the FBI and now they’re reporting such incidents as a single crime like they’re “supposed to.” Now that they are using the same standards, Dallas’ rate is less that Fort Worth’s! Aren’t you so proud?

The mayor is limited in power, but the councilmen aren’t running around like great feudal chiefs either. Corruption in government is about normal levels for Texas, nothing out of the ordinary.

Thanks. That rules out envirowhacks, DUmmies, crazed anti-religionists, nutty sports fans, and other ax grinders, leaving common criminals.

Texas has a lot to offer, but too much that needs ‘offed’, for me to ever really want to live there.

“Afro-American”? Were they born and then emigrated from Afrika? If no, then just say “black” neighborhood...

Can’t be. The Cowboys didn’t win the Super Bowl.

Oh wait, that doesn’t happen in Texas.

There are only 4 areas of Dallas that really suck, North, South, East, and West. San Antonio Spurs just gave Cuban another ulcer, Go Spurs!

Even when the Cowboys, Mavericks, Rangers, or Stars *win*, we don’t have “Chicago-style” or “LA-style” celebrations here in Dallas. :D

Uh no.

Besides, basketball is a child’s game, not a real sport. :D

I used to finance apartments, and one we were considering was in Oak Cliff. I did my condition inspection and it was a fair, but not great apartment. Given this assessment, and the fact that no matter what you’re told banks really do avoid loans in certain parts of the community, my boss wanted to look at it himself.

When we got to the neighborhood we got detoured because of about 10 police cars closing off a large area for a murder investigation (with the body still on the ground).

We didn’t end up making that loan, but I did assure my boss that there were no dead bodies when I first visited the property.
