In his hour of political need, Barack Obama went to his base -- the media. He delivered a speech about the nation's racial divisions that couldn't possibly get anything but lavish praise from the press, burying for now the controversy over his longtime pastor, the Rev. Jeremiah Wright.
Obama made two arguments for why he couldn't reject the Rev. Wright. One was that the Rev. Wright lived through the era of segregation. So did many others. Surely, there are plenty of black pastors in the country who have suffered more than Wright without letting a left-wing racialist ideology taint their Christian message of love and mercy, let alone telling paranoid lies from the pulpit.
The other was he "can no more disown him than I can disown the black community." This was a poetic simulacrum of profundity. Does that mean Obama can reject no black man or woman because it would constitute rejecting the black community? Did the Hillary Clinton campaign reject the Italian-American community when it rejected Geraldine Ferraro?
For now, Obama's speech worked. But questions about his judgment and candor will linger.

Actually, another possible explanation is that Obama’s own beliefs do tend toward the moderate “post-racial” person he has portrayed in the campaign — unfortunately for his presidential prospects, that would mean he has been living a lie for 20 years to ingratiate himself with the hard-core activist Afro-American community.
In reality, I suspect he’s somewhere between Wright and the “Happy Negro” candidate he has pretended to be, or maybe he doesn’t even really know himself.
What he probably can’t do successfully is reconcile for the public the man who embraced Wright as mentor with the man who pretends to be a moderate post-racial candidate.
Whoever the real Obama may be, a lot more people are going to have doubts (justified) about his honesty and authenticity.
Kinda brings back memories of "Ah didn't inhale".
Obama dug himself a really nice grave with all his clarifications and stupid speeches.
The real America will reject this race-baiting clown come November. No one wants to see Al Sharpton in the Rose Garden lecturing the world on racism. You and I know this is what will happen if Hussein wins the presidency.
That is his frame, and he wants 'typical white persons' to follow and act according to this frame. Of course, in order that to happen, people have to agree with with his main premise first. Now, who agree with that but the Blacks and some 'typical self-hatred white liberals'?
No one listens to, or remembers a 4000+word speech.
But they'll never forget the sound bite "God damn America."
Don’t you just love the way the liberal media is giving Osamabama a pass for the blatant lies he told in the interviews immediately after this thing went “critical.”
He claimed he had never heard those radical views expressed by Wright. Then when he realized how absurd those lies were, he fessed up in his speech.
Can you imagine a Republican getting away with whoppers like that? If he were a Republican, *that* would be the story, not his “courageous” speech.
Verdict: no one saw his boring speech, some of them just heard about it. On the contrary, everyone and their typical grandmother saw Wright's bigotry over and over.
That's my theory. White American mother and black African (NOT African-American) father, abandoned by both, raised by white grandparents in a state with next to no black community, attending a toney, overwhelmingly white school. Then he goes to Chicago, looking for an identity, marries into an African-American family and embraces a black liberation church, finding an identity that is not unhelpful in South Side politics. Now, he pretends to reject much of what he embraced.
I don't think this guy has a core, which is a very scary prospect to put in the White House.
But he should have been strong enough to tap Wright on the shoulder and whisper in Wright's ear that he was endangering the souls of young people.
Charlie Manson just said,”son of a gun”,just missed by that much-—— Helter Skelter would have made me famous again !!!!!!!!
Just Whitey tryin to stir up more Controversy for brother Obama.
No one sits for 20 years in a place and doesn’t embrace what is being said . I think Obama is anti American and and a racist .It’s pretty clear to me . His wife , a potential 1st lady , is even worse. This is what we have come to . If Obama was white and his pastor was a KKK type , his career would be over in a second.
Maybe Barack wasn’t strong enough to walk out of his church.
Please , spare me excuses for him . If he didnt believe in what was being preached he could have gotten up and walked out , no friggin big deal . Geeezz..He not only stayed 20 years he embraced the racist pig as a mentor and he gave big $$$ to the “cause”. Is it plain enough yet what this guy is ?
“Maybe Barack wasn’t strong enough to walk out of his church.”
“Please , spare me excuses for him . If he didnt believe in what was being preached he could have gotten up and walked out , no friggin big deal .”
Not to mention, that if he couldn’t manage to confront his minister, how is he going to stand up to our enemies?
So what Obama is saying, essentially, is he’s clueless. I don’t know what’s worse, a racist lying to cover up his beliefs, or a candidate for President who’s so clueless he doesn’t realize what Black Liberation Theology is, and he’s been listening it twice a week for 20 years. How do his excuses even fly?
Chrissy Matthews: Obama Speech Caused 'Thrill Going Up My Leg'
Poor Crissy, he's just an atypical white person.
Meanwhile cable news reports indicate that polling in Pennsylvania shows working class people turned more against Obama after they heard his "I Have A Scheme" speech.
He’s just another racist like Jackson or Sharpton. If he had his way whitey would be in the field picking cotton just for the sake of fairness. I’m sick of it all and I’m sick of the self hating whites who still fall for the “us po old black folks “ routine . Enough already .
