Top psychiatrist concludes liberals clinically nuts
Eminent psychiatrist makes case ideology is mental disorder
February 15, 2008
WASHINGTON Just when liberals thought it was safe to start identifying themselves as such, an acclaimed, veteran psychiatrist is making the case that the ideology motivating them is actually a mental disorder.
"Based on strikingly irrational beliefs and emotions, modern liberals relentlessly undermine the most important principles on which our freedoms were founded," says Dr. Lyle Rossiter, author of the new book, "The Liberal Mind: The Psychological Causes of Political Madness." "Like spoiled, angry children, they rebel against the normal responsibilities of adulthood and demand that a parental government meet their needs from cradle to grave."
While political activists on the other side of the spectrum have made similar observations, Rossiter boasts professional credentials and a life virtually free of activism and links to "the vast right-wing conspiracy."
For more than 35 years he has diagnosed and treated more than 1,500 patients as a board-certified clinical psychiatrist and examined more than 2,700 civil and criminal cases as a board-certified forensic psychiatrist. He received his medical and psychiatric training at the University of Chicago.
Rossiter says the kind of liberalism being displayed by the two major candidates for the Democratic Party presidential nomination can only be understood as a psychological disorder.

Most of the time, I skate by because I post threads no one else would dear be caught dead posting.
However, when I’m thinking of posting a conventional topic . . . and I search, I try and choose the any word option and then search through all the resulting hit pages exhaustively. It can be quite time consuming on some topics.
This was interesting as the
FIND ALL WORDS
option only turned up your post.
But I was certain the article had been posted earlier. So then I tried
FIND ANY WORD
option and found it after 5-6 pages of meaningless hits.
Sounds like you made an earnest effort.
It’s the folks who don’t try at all that are most annoying to JimRob, if my understanding is remotely accurate.
Thanks for your understanding.
Blessings this Resurrection Sunday to you and yours.
I was always taught, "God helps those that help themselves." Of course, I was taught by strong, self-sufficient, hardworking folks.
All I’m saying is that the fact that liberals are nuts is not news here. We have always known this on the FR. It’s a fact similar to the MSM being biased. Obvious but denied by the far left.
Happy Easter

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cognitive_dissonance
Cognitive dissonance is a psychological state that describes the uncomfortable feeling between what one holds to be true and what one knows to be true
In simple terms, it can be the filtering of information that conflicts with what one already believes, in an effort to ignore that information and reinforce one's beliefs. In detailed terms, it is the perception of incompatibility between two cognitions, where "cognition" is defined as any element of knowledge, including attitude, emotion, belief, or behavior. The theory of cognitive dissonance states that contradicting cognitions serve as a driving force that compels the mind to acquire or invent new thoughts or beliefs, or to modify existing beliefs, so as to reduce the amount of dissonance (conflict) between cognitions.
Social psychologist Leon Festinger first proposed the theory in 1957 after the publication of his book When Prophecy Fails, observing the counterintuitive belief persistence of members of a UFO doomsday cult and their increased proselytization after the leader's prophecy failed. The failed message of earth's destruction, purportedly sent by aliens to a woman in 1956, became a disconfirmed expectancy that increased dissonance between cognitions, thereby causing most members of the impromptu cult to lessen the dissonance by accepting a new prophecy: that the aliens had instead spared the planet for their sake.

Two important considerations:
1) Importantly, one of the fundamental properties of liberal socialism is herd-like behavior. Interestingly, this kind of behavior can also be found in many juveniles (think “peer pressure” and cliques), but is usually lost with the onset of adulthood. So could much of liberal socialism be caused by something, say a childhood illness, that inhibits full maturity? Note that this could be a condition of degree, with rabid socialists being the most brain damaged and least mature.
This would also highlight the differences between inherent leanings and learned leanings, like the difference between a psychopath and a sociopath.
2) Liberal socialists also strongly *embrace* immaturity, with a cult of youth and idealizations of childhood. “I don’t ever want to grow up”, is a common refrain. Interestingly, the difference between domestic and wild animals is that domestic animals do not reach emotional adulthood, and the individuality and aggressiveness that comes with it.
That being said, could liberal socialists be called “domesticated humans”, versus the “wild humans” (think Ted Nugent), who are oriented to independence and self-sustainment, individual success and failure.
3) The three factors that should be considered as possible causes are heredity, environment, and medical factors that could contribute to stunted growth.
However it happens, there is so much peculiar *uniformity* of liberal socialism that if you found several of them who had no exposure to liberal socialism’s philosophical underpinnings, they would still be able to reconstruct its bizarre principles, because they have such a similar mind-set.
This mind-set goes back to before the founding of the United States, and over time, from very divergent directions, it has been essentially reassembled as a philosophy, with an unnerving number of similarities.
Perhaps this is the reason that liberal socialists are so similar, even internationally and over perhaps 250 years?

"What is your obsession with duplicate posts?"
You have more posts here regarding duplicate posts than addressing the content of this post.
Besides, not everyone reads every single post 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
I missed it. I'm glad it was posted again.
Didn’t Savage scoop this guy?
It’s a tough one, because there are people for whom that’s true in the ‘moderate’ or ‘right wing’ side of the political spectrum, as well.
Is it considered an honor to be known as a top psychiatrist?
Obsession?
Have you ever read the definition of that word—especially the clinical definition?
This is probably the first time I’ve mentioned such a thing in more than 2 years—maybe more than 3.
That’s hardly an obsession.
Sheesh.
Did someone steal your Easter Eggs early?
